I live in the town where this murder happened. Col Faulkner is the great grandfather of William Faulkner. He is also buried in this town with a beautiful monument

CBee My mom loved Faulkner! 2y
Reecaspieces @CBee lot of people do. I like his short stories better than his novels 2y

“If a story is in you, it has to come out.” ~ William Faulkner
Late post but have to share with my fellow authors, writers and followers that a special person who I regard as a mentor, leader and who cultivates empowerment gifted me this amazing leather journal. What an unexpected delight!

New mural on our town square. We are the place where William Faulkner‘s great grandfather shot and killed someone on our town square. https://mississippiencyclopedia.org/entries/falkner-william-clark/

Have been in New Orleans for a few hours and my first stop after lunch is the Faulkner bookstore, of course! ☺️ Any other bookish recommendations while I‘m here? ⚜️

LeeRHarry Love this bookshop - the owner was lovely, I asked if she had a copy of Pachinko and she didn‘t but gave me her ARC instead 😊 5y
ju.ca.no Lovely😍 5y
cathipink My fave is Dauphine Street Books - it's definitely a labyrinth of books, and worth it if you want to dig for some goodies 🙂 5y

I came home to a delightful surprise this afternoon. The books I bought on my NOLA trip had arrived. I had completely forgotten about them. Love the gorgeous editions sold at Faulkner House Books. #bookmail #nola

thegirlwiththelibrarybag The bookmail that we‘ve forgotten about buying is perhaps the sweetest bookmail! Enjoy! 6y
Blaire @thegirlwiththelibrarybag thank you! It made my afternoon. 6y

Thought I would share. This is from our town historian
This photo is Richard Jackson Thurmond the former railroad officer who shot W.C. Falkner on Nov. 5, 1889. Falkner died the next day. William Cuthbert Faulkner used the stories he had heard about his great-grandfather in some of his novels and short stories. Thurmond was acquitted and moved back to North Carolina about 1900 where he is buried.

alisiakae I‘m curious, what part of NC? 7y
Kaye Very cool. Are you talking William Faulkner ? I know there‘s a book by his niece and she tells if 2 murders that involved their family members. They got off with both of them. 7y
See All 7 Comments
Reecaspieces Yes. The murders happened on our court house square. Ripley, MS 7y
alisiakae @Reecaspieces Neat! That‘s not so far from me, I live near Charlotte. I have a good friend from Elkin. 7y
alisiakae Funnily, I will be in that area this weekend if the weather is nice, to visit a vineyard or two. It‘s also the halfway point between my house and my birth father‘s farm in Galax, VA. So we meet up in the Yadkin Valley every so often! I‘ll have to look about adding this on as a side trip! 7y

The 25th of September is the Birthday of both William Faulkner and sportswriter Red Smith .
Says Smith"There's nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein."

Hello my Litsy friends sorry to post twice today but I'm just about halfway done with this book and a thought came to me when I saw this picture. With today's computers, spell check, and email I came to the realization that most of the authors I adore did most of their work on a typewriter on a sheet of paper and mail. Just having complete admiration for these awesome men and women, authors from the past.

DivineDiana Absolutely! 📚 7y
shawnmooney Your apology for posting twice on the same day made me smile – I post twice an hour at minimum… :-). 7y
Jamesmelvinmitchell @shawnmooney lol yeah I don't post much but you sir are awesome. 7y

I'm visiting my son in Louisiana; and one of my #latestbookishbuys was a little while ago -- this bookmark from #faulknerhousebooks in NOLA. Hoping to make it to Octavia's to score a signed copy of something good. #photoadaynov16 #day25 #bookmark

vivastory Nice. I was in New Orleans once about five years ago. Didn't know about Faulkner house. Are you going to have beignets? 8y
Alfoster OMG @vivastory We were in New Orleans for a day in April. Beignets were amazing!😍😍😍 8y

vivastory @LeahBergen Have you been to the insect museum? It was down by the war museum. 8y
vivastory @Alfoster I'm a little dumbfounded why they're such a regional specialty. Chicory coffee and beignet. That's be my breakfast everyday if I lived there. 8y
Betty Honeymooned in New Orleans. Insisted we have 8y
Donna_sBookMinute @vivastory we walked past a beignet place but I was too focused on getting to the pralines! Delicious ones at New Oeleans School of Cooking. I'm sure I'll have some beignets before I leave. 8y
Donna_sBookMinute @LeahBergen -- the proprietress at Faulkner's gave me map featuring book stores 8y
LeahBergen @Donna_sBookMinute I did a cooking class at New Orleans School of Cooking and yes ... those pralines! ❤️ 8y
LeahBergen @vivastory No, I haven't! I will need to check it out next time. 8y

Happy Birthday, William Faulkner, born on this day, Sept 25, in 1897.

acorter I never saw the similarity between Faulkner and Costanza before...https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8YaaZZN9VYs 8y
acorter Ohh, and happy Birthday, Faulkner. You gave us so many greats! 8y
AuthorSheri I can't do that. If I quit writing while I'm on a roll, I flounder when I pick back up. I have to write myself out. 8y

When in Nawlins, you must visit the Faulkner Bookstore. Located in the beautifully named, Pirate's Alley, the alley at St. Louis Cathedral, Faulkner actually lived in this building.

OTD, William Faulkner died. One of the highlights of my college career was going to the annual Faulkner conference in Oxford, MS, in 2014. It was an amazing experience (Square Books ❤️), and I took many pictures- including this one.

Ms.Story I lived in Oxford when I was a little girl! Still have family there! 8y
LeahBergen I love Oxford (and Square Books)! ❤️ 8y
