This author though.. lines like this.
God forbid two adults have a conversation about what scents they prefer. Just say something! Btw this book is soooooo good. Beautiful prose. Interesting characters and a perfect setting (Civil War era asylum where men can have their wives locked away for any fabricated reason). Enjoying this one. But this character comes out with some wild ideas. Civil War era masculinity.
A depressing story about a woman put into an asylum because she objected to her husband‘s treatment of slaves.

1) mini-break from rehab, going home to snuggle kids and cats, but have to be back Sunday evening.
2) haven't read the book, but life feels like I'm in an asylum right now
3) London, UK
4) no room for a gorilla, so a sloth it is
5) it's overcast, so I guess it'll be around 23°C by midday
There were parts of this book I really liked, but there were parts that felt too disjointed to me. Iris is placed in an asylum after her husband and the court declares her insane. It's 1860s America, so the Civil War is taking place, though the setting for the novel is an island off of Florida, pretty much removed from battles. Iris is strong willed, which I liked, though she makes some decisions without thinking of consequences. A so-so read.
"His paper on the relationship of female lunacy and the suffrage movement in America..." This book is set in the 1860s in an asylum - this quote refers to the psychiatrist, and owner, of the establishment. I feel I'll be shaking my head quite a lot at the thoughts of characters in this novel.
I'm looking forward to the parade of #headlesscovers for #photoadaynov16 today! This book is about a woman who's sent to an asylum for daring to go against her slave owning husband. While there she meets an odd little boy and a Confederate veteran suffering from severe PTSD. Then stuff happens! Interesting discussion of "mental health" at the time, but the story itself is a little disappointing.
