#14books14weeks the world of the traveling salesman in the west in the 1950s. Rather than SciFi, it reflects Dicks social realism side with a good dose of Richard Yates style,ie,we are doing what‘s expected of us , yet why are we unhappy? Bruce meets an older woman from his past & gets mixed up with Milton Lumky , an aging traveling salesman who gives him some dubious leads and advice.
Bookwomble I love PKD's non-genre fiction. I think they were often still just weird enough to not do well at the time of publication, but they stand up well, I think. I last read Puttering About in a Small Land, and thought it was fantastically layered, and proved that PKD could write complex characters, despite criticisms to the contrary. I should do a re-read of these novels at some point 😒📚⏳ 2y
