⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Author reads the audiobook, which I‘m a fan of in NF. He consistently shares summaries of his concepts in questions: An essentialist would ask … ? A non-essentialist would ask … ? The questions really helped me solidify his concepts. Like other productivity books he does rely heavily on what successful people do, focusing oh so much on men mainly in tech/startup/businessy roles.
An excellent read! If you‘re looking to reduce stress, increase productivity and improve feelings of fulfillment, this is the book for you!
To Reach Greatness, We Must Follow it in this 21st Century of Non Essentialism
I‘m so confused. This just arrived from Book Depository today. I have no recollection of ordering it, I have no order confirmations in my email, and it isn‘t even the kind of book I‘d typically pick up. 🤔
So great! I can‘t say enough about it. I also appreciated that it was succinct. Many times I‘m struck by the unnecessary repetition or jumping around that authors lead us on. McKeown sticks to his mantra that less is more.
As someone who tries to do all of the things I found myself taking notes during this one. I have a hard time saying no, & I‘m grateful for the advice of how to focus & decide what‘s really important instead of saying yes to everyone. I see lots of applications for both my personal & professional life.
“If I didn‘t already own this how much would I spend to buy it?”
“Multitasking is not the enemy of essentialism, pretending we can multifocus is.”
Learning to ask myself "what is essential?" And eliminating everything else.
P 39 - when we forget our ability to choose, we learn to be helpless. # p 74 in every set of facts, something essential is hidden # p 103 no more Yes. It‘s either hell yeah! Or no. # p 131 deep conviction of a deliberate choice # p 132 courage is key to the process of elimination
While I have to agree with the many reviews that state this book could have cut down, I enjoyed it. I give the author some liberties when he claims certain historical figures were/are Essentialist, bc really, he couldn‘t know. It did give me validation when cutting some of the unnecessary out of my life. Overall, an easy read if you enjoy self-development.
This book could have easily been condensed into 100 pages or less. Many of the points were pretty obvious; however, there were parts of the book I found interesting. For example, learning not to say yes to everything right away or responding to people too quickly. Also, learning that it‘s not about how many things you cross off your “to-do” list, but limiting what you put on there in the first place! All-in-all I thought this book was just average
A great book to remind you to take charge of your life by managing your time through prioritization and eliminating waste, either wasteful time, processes, or habits from the day. The book expands on this and other relates concepts of essentialism geared towards helping you maximize your time and resources. #EssentialReading #Essentialism #Litsy
Working my way into this day and, frankly, into this year. Yes, I realize it's April; however, good resets happen when you read books like these...more to come on Essentialism because it's not a book to rush.
It's a great, even though people might find it repetitive with anecdotes to just trying emphasis only one thing, but that is the point. The book was quite well written, was made clean and fast reading. I like it, will read it to remind myself, to stay focus on essential.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great read but not giving a five star review because I feel like he could‘ve provided more hands-on examples or some sort of takeaway for this topic. He regurgitated the same stories I‘ve heard or read over and over. I‘m surprised he didn‘t mention Zuckerberg‘s simple clothing choices. Good read for an introduction to this topic.
I definitely enjoyed reading this one. I think it gets to be repetitive, but I think that was the point. We have to constantly remind ourselves not to overextend and to prioritize. Sometimes it's okay to say "No." I would recommend this to anyone who struggles with saying no to things.
Good insights, nothing new but a good reminder about being intentional about where you spend your time and energy. I feel like this could have been a series of blog posts or a magazine article. There was no need for an entire book. However, despite that I would recommend it.
"What if we stopped celebrating busy as a measurement of importance? What if instead we celebrated how much time we had spent listening, pondering, meditating, and enjoying time with the most important people in our lives?"
The recliner this little one is hogging right now is one of my favorite reading spots #FALLSTACK
This is essentially the business version of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck. The current crop of self-help/productivity books are all about focusing on what's important to you. This version isn't a good fit for my life. If you work in a corporate environment and feel overworked, it might be perfect for you. It's well written and not too repetitive.
Ah, BuzzFeed! For once your quiz is accurate. Surely there are people here who'd score 💯.

It took me two and a half years but I finished it, finally! Basically I read the first half and thought "I'm going to buy this book", returned it to the library, brought it as a gift for others, quoted it everywhere, then finally got it out again and finished it. Loved it. Really helpful, simple, clear read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First completion of the year! This will be my E for #LitsyAtoZ Not a lot of new things here, just reminders to stay focused as I plan goals. Had to laugh at myself...hard to read down my own bookshelf when I'm starting the year with a HUGE library stack. Oh well, the books on my shelves are used to waiting. 😊
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for anyone who feels too busy or overwhelmed with tasks and life (so basically... everyone). It is someone theoretical but I think there are some concrete strategies that are easy to implement as well. Im excited to try to make some changes in 2017!
I am loving this book. Same amount of energy expended in both diagrams, but look how much farther you go if you are focused on one goal! Great reminder to focus on what matters and cut out everything else that's dragging you down...
Hubby bought me this book immediately after I mentioned I had heard a podcast episode about it! Do you think he's trying to tell me something? 😂
It's probably a clue that I need to take the well-made points in this not very long book to heart when it takes almost two weeks to read it.😬 For someone who is really trying to slow the pace of her life and get back to what is really important, I thought this book gave some quality advice. One comment, however, is that it was came across more oriented to professional and business types than I expected.
I'm going to get rid of everything I own except for this book. Just kidding! But in the author's words, "In the same way that our closets get cluttered as clothes we never wear accumulate, so do our lives get cluttered as well-intended commitments and activities we‘ve said yes to pile up." Essentialism helps you determine "what's important now?" and cut out what's not, so you can "do less but better."
So so so poignant and a lesson for us all.
After a bad year, I am working to change things. This book is starting well...
It took courage, as it always does, to eliminate the nonessential.
