Bookworm: A Memoir of Childhood Reading | Patricia Craig
15 posts | 1 read | 7 to read
'Bookworm' is a memoir of childhood reading, which gives fascinating glimpses into the world of children's books and libraries in 1950s' Belfast. It is an engaging and idiosyncratic approach to social and literary history and the author's lifelong involvement with books and book collecting.

Just when I thought I'd settled on using Excel spreadsheets to track all my book. Anyone use this btw? #photoadaynov16 #booknerdproblems

GlitteryOtters I'm still using a notebook and pen, but am considering upgrading to digital...I'm really enjoying the various posts lately on this subject, seeing all the methods everyone uses. Gotta figure out which method will work best for me, which is hard. 8y

balletbookworm My book catalogue is in an Excel with tabs for fiction, nonfic, textbooks, mass market romance novels, and Melville House Art of the Novellae. I track my reading wth Goodreads and an Access database, which is more detailed than GR 8y
theshrinkette @balletbookworm GR definitely is insufficient for me. I like to track by genre, authors' ethnicity/nationality, own voices, POC/LGBTQ+/disability, etc. and I like to look at the graphs. Is Access available for personal use or is it through work for you? 8y
balletbookworm @theshrinkette Access is part of my Microsoft package (I pay for Office 360, it's my personal account); I seeded it with the CSV I downloaded from GR a couple years ago then filled in the extra bits I needed. Since it's a relational database, I can add more stuff to the author tab if necessary later without having to track down every book he/she wrote. For analysis I export what I need back to Excel (chart tools are better) 8y
balletbookworm @theshrinkette the hardest part was learning the SQL to stitch it together during the export 😱 8y
ReadingEnvy We teach it as an option where I work. There is a storage threshold, but if you don't capture cover images and full text you should last a while. 8y

Another quiz, I'll stop in a while hahaha. It was fun answering them. I don't know if they're accurate but on a scale of one to Hermione I'm in Hermione level when it comes to being a bookworm. Yay. #BookwormQuizzes

Try it out hahaha http://www.teen.com/2016/02/26/quizzes-personality-trivia-teen-girls/book-lover-...

A memoir about growing up with books in Belfast in the 50s -- a love that led to a brilliant literary life. Fresh, smart, and eye-opening.
