“'How do I know you actually have the power to grant wishes'“

blurb

This book is suitable for students in 4th grade because they have the ability to understand things that are outside of real life. Also, I think the fact that it is set in a school there can still be some light connections made between the reader and the main character. Using this as a book club book could be the best way to go.

“Wishes and Wellingtons“ can be considered speculative fiction because of its use of fantasy fiction components that really spear the plot forward. There are aspects of magic and adventure that make this book enjoyable for students. The use of the genie also allows for this book to be speculative fiction.

“The mist was definitely assuming a human-like shape now.“

This book would be great for ages 9 to 12 middle grade readers (upper elementary and middle school) that are interested in imaginative worlds of magic with exciting adventures and action. I also thought this book would be great for silent reading and it is also part of a series.

This is a Victorian fantasy novel that would be fun to have in your classroom because it provides a unique blend of historical content and imaginative storytelling. It takes students to a different time period while they get to explore themes such as social class and gender roles.

quote
LexiPrice

“Let them start their dreadful wars, let destruction rain down, and let plague sweep through, but I will still be here, doing my work, holding humankind together with love like this.”

Wishes and the Wellingtons by Julie Berry is a speculative fictional novel that was published in 2018. The story is about a girl named Maeve Merritt who hates the strict regulations of her boarding school in London. Maeve found something wonderful and now she is being pursued by an orphan kid from the home next door. To make things right, she'll need all of her wit and sarcasm. You won't soon forget the fierce heroine Maeve Merritt.

Finished Wishes & Wellingtons by Julie Berry! What a delightful story with a genie and adventures, a nasty headmistress, a rascally orphan boy, a genuine friend, and a rambunctious girl at a London boarding school! The plot had wonderful twists and turns and a great story about friendship. #AwesomeAugust and #19 on #BookSpinBingo 9.83 hours reading so far!

Started this audiobook today on my walk because I‘m caught up with The Downstairs Girl for #SundayBuddyRead. It‘s quite entertaining and reminds me of The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett except for the Genie. #AwesomeAugust #19 on #BookSpinBingo Got my 3 hours reading in today!

Andrew65 Looks fun. 4y

1. I love walking and looking at all the green leaves and the fresh flowers. Also going for leisurely drives.
2. Extremely introverted.
3. I‘ve listened to one audiobook: Wishes And Wellingtons by Julie Barry

MittenGirlPeach I‘d love to play! 1. I enjoy listening to the peepers from the hot tub, and planting seeds. 2. More introvert than extrovert. 3. I believe I‘ve read three books this month, and I loved The Royal We. Frothy and delicious. 5y

A fun YA book that wasn‘t as nearly predictable as I thought it was going to be. I liked Maeve. She had spunk and didn‘t let the morals of late 19th century Victorian England define who she wanted to be.

Of course, I‘ve totally lost how much time I‘ve read for #24B4Monday. 😂 This was 9.5 hrs. Plus I finished 2 books on Friday, so somewhere In double digits.

DarcysMom My daughter and I listened to this one together. We really liked it. 5y

This was a free Audible YA book, so I had no idea that I‘d enjoy it as much as I did. The writing and the narrator are high quality and a pleasure to listen to and young Maeve Merritt is the best protagonist I‘ve read thus far this year—feisty, smart, and complex. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
