Traitor in the Tunnel
Traitor in the Tunnel | Y S Lee
13 posts | 23 read | 25 to read
"Lee paints an evocative picture of London life and brings the romance between Mary and James to a happy conclusion." "Booklist" Quick-witted Mary Quinn is undercover at Buckingham Palace, hunting a petty thief, when the Prince of Wales witnesses a murder. Even more alarming is the fact that the accused killer shares a name with Mary s long-lost father. Meanwhile, engineer James Easton, Mary s onetime paramour, is at work shoring up the sewers beneath the palace, where an unexpected tunnel seems to be very much in use. Can Mary and James trust each other long enough to solve the mystery and protect the royal family?"

Much more what I want to read right now: an #escape, some fudged #historical background, #thrilling #romantic scenes—if a little silly from withheld feelings and miscommunications—and a #gutsy heroine.
Off to my own #Agency job now...not nearly so glam. Although, a parlormaid in #Buckingham Palace might be just as rough...

This series certainly isn‘t the most intriguing that I‘ve ever read. I‘m not left clamouring for the next book or unable to put it down in between chapters. Despite this, the books are still good, and there were parts of this plot that I REALLY liked. Like the addition of Mary‘s father into the story? AMAZING DECISION, Lee. If you want a story story that won‘t require a huge emotional investment, but is still enjoyable and well written, pick this.

You know how things come to you at a weird moment. This series popped into my head during a call about non red library cards. This mystery series called The Agency. It has 4 books about a Victorian girls school that teaches young ladies to be spies. A more "realistic" version of Etiquette and Espionage.

Original covers are quite girly but the new covers are more unisex.

BookFreakOut My book club read the first one and really enjoyed it! 7y
TheFunkyBookworm These sound good- just checked out the new covers and see what u mean about them being more unisex- I‘ll likely feature those when I intro them to students! 7y

This was a fun historical YA series starring a biracial heroine--half Chinese, half white--set during Victorian London. Spirited and headstrong Mary Quinn joins a secret ladies detective agency and solves crimes while exploring her mysterious family history. #multiethnic #junebookbugs

RealLifeReading Oh thanks for the reminder. I've only read the first three books. Is the fourth one the last in the series? 8y
Brie @RealLifeReading Yeah, the fourth is the last. 8y

The choice was between folding the laundry on the back of my chair or trying to knock out a new book before the Game of Thrones finale tonight...the laundry can wait.

QuoteQueen This has been my weekend. 😂 Eh, I'll adult tomorrow...maybe... 8y

Angela_AVT Oooooh this looks good. 9y
RandomBookMuses @Angela_AVT I really think you would love it! Maybe even @Pink-Jenn 's daughter...what romance there might be is drawn out and sweet...not hot and steamy...I enjoyed every single one of the series which is completed at 4 books...great female lead in an interesting historical era 9y
Pink-Jenn I'll have to check it out! Thanks! 9y

Entertaining and very fast read. I had a lot of fun reading it. And I just learned it is the first of a completed (I hope) series. I will continue on with the other books especially now that I know I won't be breaking my "no starting unfinished series" rule!

Hmmm...what to read next? This is a good problem to have.

Beckys_Books I've heard good things... 9y
Beckys_Books I'm afraid to go to library. Last time I checked out 6 books, three of them were over 600 pages. That didn't help me with my TBR pile. 😏 9y
LizzyM @Beckys_Books yeah I have waaaaay too many books checked out from the library. And I keep buying them too! I have a problem. 😳 9y
