Book Depository coming through! #newin #bookhaul #readmoreplays
This was brilliant! By turns funny, serious, thoughtful and silly, I loved spending time in Phoebe and Luke's first-term-of-university world as they make and break friends and hearts. Highly recommended. I want to go re-read Tom and Lucy's other two books now!
After finishing Giant Days I wanted more British university comedy so I grabbed this copy of Freshers that @yayeahyeah lent me about 100 years ago (okay, two, it came out in 2017). So far it has not disappointed me. I‘m only on page 70 and I've done many giggles and three loud cackles!
1) oh, gosh. My school went up to 8th, so I‘m going to use that to my advantage and say 8th grade. I had an amazing homeroom and also history teacher. I would bring him coffee and get As and he wouldn‘t mark me late every morning (which I was).
2) Chinese.
3) Nope, but my sister and hers lives with me!
4) A cold one. Idk I am bad at geography but I want to be a cold island.
5) it‘s already Saturday!

Hilarious. Reminds me why I never want to relive my freshman year of college. 🤭
New Brit Lit Podcast episode, and I loved making this one!

So excited this is coming to the US in June — one of my faves of 2017 — though I shudder to think how Americanised these York students will be. For a start, solo cups aren‘t a thing in the UK...
This is retitled as Freshmen for the US release. Marketed toward the YA set, we got a galley copy of it and I'm very disappointed. It's written in a YA format but it's too mature with the sexual themes to be considered YA. This could easily be New Adult but the writing is too simplistic. Pass on this one!
I flipping loved this book. It made me laugh, cry, cringe, and internally scream, and filled me with nostalgia for my own uni days and thankfulness for my college friends. Even the acknowledgements page made me cry. Americans and other non-Brits, you can get it on bookdepository for less than $9 including postage. Everyone in the U.K.: get thee to a bookshop!
It's 20 years this month since I started university so I'm feeling a bit nostalgic. Good time to read this!
I read this book so unbelievably quickly as it was ridiculously funny and anyone who has been to university will instantly relate to all the ups and downs of freshers week, which in this book is told through the perspective of Luke and Phoebe. A great laugh out loud read! #laughoutloud #freshers #youngadultfiction
