When a local coffeeshop has not 1 but 2 copies of a book on my TBR that I haven‘t found at any library or bookstore.

marleed Saddest of days - I think I‘m still grieving that death - and then months later when she took to the ice by herself - gut wrenching 😭 8h
Ruthiella That‘s some amazing book serendipity! 🤯 8h

I absolutely loved this book!!! It was beautifully done. It was emotional. I loved reading their story. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 stars. This book is the eighteenth book completed for #RushAThon readathon hosted by @Andrew65 and the second book for #20in4 readathon

marleed I see the cover on this title and can‘t help but remember my ugly cry, devastated reaction to Sergi‘s death. It was all so sad. …And then months later she came out and took the ice alone. Excuse me while I go back into mourning for a time :( 1y

"They were two mismatched kids teamed by the Soviet regime to perform for the good of the state. ... Somewhere along the way, between training and competing, the couple fell madly in love..." -Book flap

I used to love to watch them skate ?

marleed Me too. I was so incredibly sad when he died. Then later when she went out on the ice alone - gutted. 2y

This book is amazing!!!! I remember being a 11 year old girl watching them skate in the 1994 Olympics!!! I can remember them clearly but not remember any of the other pair skaters during that time. She did an amazing job telling hers and Sergei story. It was a beautiful book. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 stars!!! I am glad that I got this book for Christmas!!!

Cinfhen I totally remember this pairs team!!!! 6y
marleed @Cinfhen It‘s intriguing the times when a celebrity death makes a personal impact on me. This one had me crying real tears. It seems the world wrapped Katja in their hearts. 6y
JacqMac I still own that book, too. Heartbreaking! 6y

marleed @JacqMac I‘ve never been able to donate it. It‘s not even about the book - it‘s more the real life story and the time. I was a big fan of skaters at the time. 6y
JacqMac @marleed I feel the same way. 6y
MicheleinPhilly 😭😭😭😭OMG! I think I cried for a week when this happened. And I totally read that book many many moons ago. 6y
marleed @MicheleinPhilly Even thinking about it is still sad. I just read Tembe Locke From Scratch. She‘s a model for moving through grief. So was Ekaterina. 6y
gradcat Like @Cinfhen I, too, remember this pair. However, I feel kind of stupid—I didn‘t know about his death and her bereavement. How could I have missed that, I wonder? 🤔 6y
marleed @gradcat You were saved the ugly cry then. Here was her tribute skate when she returned to the ice alone. https://youtu.be/_X9wP8-D63o 6y
GreatBookStudy My husband bought me this for my bday when it first came out! I loved it, and I probably cried, too. I loved Gordeeva and Grinkov. Time for a reread. 6y
gradcat Thank you for the link...I think I vaguely remember hearing this when she skated by herself...your link woke up something in my brain. ♥️ 6y

When your bookshelf crashes in the middle of the night! Some say you should have fewer books, I say you buy more shelves so you have more space for more goodies! 😉📕📚📖

Didn't know that today is sports day on here but this is one of my favorite sports books (well part sports and part love story) Have many more but this was one of my first ones. I loved watching them skate, it was beautiful. A heartbreaking story as well.

Gayan I love this book. 8y
LitHousewife I loved to watch them skate and I thought he was so handsome. I saw them perform on tour in Detroit. Afterward, my friends and I drove behind and sat watching the tour bus (we were pretty far away, so only moderate stalkers). When they all walked out, I shouted, "Sergei!" He turned around and waved. If made my heart happy.???? 8y
Crash @LitHousewife that's an amazing memory! 8y
