She wiped her sleeve over her forehead. It‘s not even like you‘re carrying a lot of weight, she scolded herself.

An amazing story about the fantasy world and overall girl power. Kel is being trained to be a knight and the story covers how hard she works to be where she is. I think this book is very empowering and action packed!

This book is inspiring and takes the reader on a journey of self reflection and going outside your comfort zone. The boys must rely on Kels to lead them to safety.

(2018) Page Protector of the Small•two, by Tamora Pierce who is a New York Times Best Seller author is about a a knight named Kel‘s. Throughout her journey she has to master her fears and keep up with Lord Wyldon. This book takes the reader into the setter though vocabulary.

This book is a bout a strong girl who has to prove herself that she is capable. She is training in a male dominated field of knights and is expected to fail. She is determined to succeed and lead the group to save the pages.

The second book of the POTS series felt like filler to me. While the first book covered a year - this book rushes through 3/4. With the change in pace between the two something was lost. While we had detail and went deeper with the characters in the first book, this one was a highlight reel and the stakes didn‘t feel as high. Hopefully the next book takes things up a notch! Big fan of SOTL and Immortals so on we go hoping it will turn around!

God, the scene where Kel rescues Lalasa never gets less intense. And Kel and Neal's friendship is so good it hurts!! #childrensfantasy #tortall

I really enjoyed this. I liked Kel and I liked her friends. I also liked her new servant Lalasa. This one went pretty fast, as it sped through all the remaining years of Kel‘s training, so it might have been nice to get more detail as we went along, but I guess being a YA book, it was sped up a bit. It‘s certainly a great series for young girls, with Kel being such a strong role model, herself. But, of course, I‘m enjoying it, too

The Protector of the Small books are some of my most favorite comfort reads. Pure competence porn, and they never get old

Done!

Kel is just a little too nice and a little too good at everything. Also, there was barely any conflict. It just felt like overall nothing really happened. I'm ready to see what book three brings!

It's pretty warm but with low humidity and a nice breeze so I'm soaking up the fresh air before it gets too gross out. Kids in the kiddie pool and me finally finishing this book!

Still reading this book...

I don't think it's just my reading mood. This series, or maybe this installment, is definitely slower than the others. Also, Kel might be a little too good for me. We'll see.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I struggled with Kel... I loved the magical sides of Alanna and Daine - I haven't reread since my original reading (circa age 13?) so I'm not sure if my feelings would have changed. 8y
eekabook I think Kel gets more interesting the older she gets. I always really loved Squire because I felt like it was the start of major shifts in her world. 8y
MarriedtoMrT @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I do miss the magic. It seems like the lack of magic is compensated for by Kel being really good at everything and overly nice. 8y
MarriedtoMrT @eekabook The second book just felt like there was very little conflict. I'm glad to hear there is more growth in the next book. 8y

I caught on to Tamora Pierce later in life. I wish I could go back in time and tell young me to read her books. #protectorofthesmall #tamorapierce

One thing I like about the series is that we see otherwise decent people upholding the systems that keep women out of knighthood. It would have been easy for Lord Wyldon to be a cartoon villain, but he genuinely cares about making sure the pages are the best knights they can be, even though he can't comprehend Kel as a woman and a warrior at the same time. Same with Jonathan putting Kel on probation. Of course, Joren really is that bad.

<3 rereading these books is bringing back all the memories \n\nTime flies in this book with all the adventures of three years packed in here, not my favorite book in the series but my love for the school setting seems to grow with every reread \n\n[09.15.16]

Love these little surprises 😍

BookManiac Super jealous 💗 9y
lilredhen @BookManiac it was a nice surprise. My mom came across two signed Madeleine L'Engles last year when we were trawling antique *cough*junk*cough* shops in our downtown district. Only time I've seen her fangirl lol 9y
BookManiac I found some online strongly considering getting one lol 8y
