Pickpick

Learning, experimentation, pursuit of beauty, pursuit of meaning, battling against the illusion of perfection. The right book at the right time? Something meditative, focused on the senses.
What's impressive is though I spent a couple dutiful, indifferent years playing the flute in school, I never had this much passion for an instrument, I know nothing about pianos, and yet this still captivated me. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? Part of my appreciation might be a nostalgic connection, I know what it is to grow up in a rural area, have nature surrounding you in your youth, then look for its echoes in a more urban setting as you pursue education and a career.
There's a strong chance that any book using forests and trees as the prevalent metaphor will be one I enjoy, but even with that bias, I think the writing here was extraordinary (credit to the translator also for conveying such).

Robotswithpersonality 3/3 Not certain this is a feeling that can be recaptured, but if anyone has any comps...I will also live in hope the author produces another work that is translated into English. 1y

Onomatopoeia are up to the writer, but having never encountered these particular syllables in English, I think the translator has directly transcribed (wrong verb?) these from the Japanese. Unique experience to see another language's onomatopoeia. Nifty!

No idea why this book stayed on my TBR shelves for so long, I am enjoying it so far 😁. It is centered on a novice piano tuner in Japan.

Something to do with wool...🧶🤔
Did I request one of these books thinking it was the other one, having heard both titles on book podcasts? Yes. Am I now interested in reading both? Yes! The beauty of a library-based TBR, I don't have to PAY for these types of mix ups, I can just enjoy the results. 😁

One from my TBR; actually about pianos, not #mountains. Still, a beautiful rendering for today's prompt! #CuriousCovers

I‘m off from work today which means morning snuggles and reading time in bed😍

I‘m only a few pages into the book, but so far it‘s a lovely story about a young boy who falls in love with tuning the piano (- without actually playing himself). He is currently training to be a piano tuner ☺️

A beautifully written love song to the piano, "The Forest of Wool and Steel" is a truly captivating story. Another piece of Japanese literature that I really enjoyed, it's 4 stars from me.

My full review is up on my blog now ?

Lcsmcat Sounds lovely. My father-in-law was a piano tuner. I‘ll have to read this in his memory. 6y
