Return to the American Revolution in this blistering conclusion to the Seeds of America trilogy that began with the bestselling National Book Award Finalist Chains and continued with Forge, which Kirkus Reviews called "the best book you'll ever read." As the Revolutionary War rages on, Isabel and Curzon have narrowly escaped Valley Forge--but their relief is short-lived. Before long they are reported as runaways, and the awful Bellingham is determined to track them down. With purpose and faith, Isabel and Curzon march on, fiercely determined to find Isabel's little sister Ruth, who is enslaved in a Southern state--where bounty hunters are thick as flies. Heroism and heartbreak pave their path, but Isabel and Curzon won't stop until they reach Ruth, and then freedom, in this grand finale to the acclaimed New York Times bestselling trilogy from Laurie Halse Anderson.

Spending Friday night by starting this, the third in a trilogy. I‘ll review all at once when this one is done but am liking this historical fiction series primarily about two young enslaved people constantly trying to find their own freedom.

I would use this book in a classroom because it is still relevant today. It is still relevant because there are people still fighting for freedom. But it also has themes like discovering one's purpose, which children can relate to. I also love this author and have read her other book, “Speak“. I think this would be a good author to introduce to my students.

This was an excellent historical fiction book because the theme provides insight and understanding of today's problems as well as those of the past. Some people are still fighting for freedom in today's society which is one of the book's themes.

An enjoyable, fitting end to an excellent trilogy of historical fiction for middle grade readers. This trilogy isn‘t afraid to face difficult issues in an age appropriate way with dignity and compassion.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Butterfinger Is this the third book? I have been waiting forever. Thank you! It is. Forged and Chains were the first two. I think I saw you say that you don't like to reread, but I think I am going to have to this weekend. I'm rambling; I am just thrilled. Thank you! 6y
Eggs @Butterfinger yes I got it at a book fair 2 years ago. I do actually reread books that are "worthy" into which category this falls ??. Enjoy! 6y

Spent the weekend finishing Chains, flying through Forge, and now I am finally on Ashes! I‘m teaching Chains for the first time this year, and after the second book, I wish I could read all three with my kids! I‘m hoping some of them will pick up the next two books on their own after we finish together. #teachersoflitsy

A stressful day equalled an Amazon used book stress buy. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I bought the tagged book, The Russian Dreambook of Colour and Flight by Gina Ochsner, The White Road by Edmund De Waal, and Ordeal by Innocence by Agatha Christie.

They‘ve all been in my TBR for ages!

LiteraryMind My favorite page on Amazon Smile is that delivery status for when books will arrive!! :) 7y
Libby1 @LiteraryMind - 😃. Do you have anything on its way at the moment? 7y
LiteraryMind @Libby1 Yes, ma‘am! Haha, I just received “Lust For Life” by Irving Stone (about my favorite painter, Van Gogh) and “The Misunderstood Jew” by Amy-Jill Levine. I‘m excited to start them, but I‘m still finishing “All the Light We Cannot See” And it‘s absolutely captivating!! Have your books come in yet? 7y

Eggs This trilogy is so important because these kinds of stories are not taught in most schools -our country's history needs a retelling! 7y

This was the best ending to the trilogy I could possibly think of. I fell in love with Chains and Forge in middle school. By the time Ashes came out, though, I had forgotten most of it. I had to re-read the trilogy, and fell in love with it all over again. This book was totally worth the wait. It was absolutely amazing! (And my dog seemed to love when I read it to him, too!!)

Set during the exciting, unsettling days that lead up to the Battle of Yorktown, ASHES is a deeply satisfying conclusion to an extraordinary historical journey. NTBM! (Not To Be Missed) More at Reading Rants: http://www.readingrants.org/2016/10/17/ashes-by-laurie-halse-anderson/
