From the New York Times bestselling author of Good Luck with That comes a new novel about a blue-blood grandmother and her black-sheep granddaughter who discover they are truly two sides of the same coin. Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows: the disappearance of Genevieve's young son, followed by the premature death of her husband. But Genevieve rose from those ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her--until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school. Genevieve kicked her out with nothing but the clothes on her back...but Emma took with her the most important London possession: the strength not just to survive but to thrive. And indeed, Emma has built a wonderful life for herself and her teenage daughter, Riley. So what is Emma to do when Genevieve does the one thing Emma never expected of her and, after not speaking to her for nearly two decades, calls and asks for help?

Good on audible. I wasn‘t a fan of how end of life care was handled. It‘s a delicate subject but one that should be discussed, particularly with loved ones. Too often the person who is suffering and dying‘s wishes aren‘t heard because it‘s too hard for the family. I wish it was handled in a different manner but it is basically a light read so I‘ll give it a pass.

I like her using different perspectives to tell the story.

Finally finished and got a decent picture of a shawl I‘ve been working on. I get ever so much more knitting and reading done now that I‘ve figured out I can do them at the same time.

Book: Emma‘s a single mom, mostly raised by her standoffish grandmother, who had plenty of pain in her life. When her grandmother is dying, the family has a chance for reconciliation. But it‘s not easy to let go of the pain of the past.

ImperfectCJ This is gorgeous! I'm impressed at your multitasking abilities. Knitting still takes my full attention. 😆 4y
PurpleTulipGirl @ImperfectCJ Thanks! Both probably take me longer if I do them at the same time, but keeping my hands busy helps me focus. I can‘t sit through a meeting without my knitting. 4y
Lindy This shawl is beautiful! 🙌 4y

This cover picture caught my eye.

Emma is the single mom of Riley. Emma lived with her grandmother Genevieve after her mother died. There‘s a definite Gilmore Girls vibe to their relationship. They haven‘t seen each other since Genevieve kicked Emma out when she got pregnant a week before graduating high school. Now, Genevieve is dying and wants Emma and Riley to spend the summer with her, promising to leave her estate to Riley.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m sort of a late arrival to the books of Kristan Higgins, but each one I‘ve read so far has been delight and I think this one may be my favorite. It‘s a bittersweet novel about families, secrets, and forgiveness with wonderfully drawn and flawed characters. #kristanhiggins #lifeandotherinconveniences #bookrecommendations #contemporaryfiction #read

I love stories where you can relate to characters right from the start. Life and other Inconveniences draws you in instantly. Genevieve the grandmother is someone you‘ll love to hate until you get to know her. Laughing and crying as you read and then a surprising turn of events. I highly recommend this book to those who understand what life can throw at you at any time .

My pre order for #lifeandotherinconveniences arrived today. This book was released this week. I haven‘t read any of her books yet but I‘ve heard that they‘re good and the cover for this book is so cute. I quit my book club recently because it wasn‘t working out for me but this would have been a good book to recommend to them because they were choosing thought provoking books to read every month which was fine but I got tired of it.

Day 29 of #30junebooks - book and lunch! I‘ve never done a sit down restaurant in an airport before, but when you have a 3.5 hour layover and you‘re traveling alone... might as well!

CoverToCoverGirl Good book + good food = happiness! 5y
Zelma It‘s a relaxing way to spend time at an airport, when you have a long layover. I hate grabbing food and eating in the waiting area by the gate. 5y
