A different house haunted story. Book has mixed reviews with low rating but I liked it. I liked the dynamic/dialogue between characters and the twist at the end. If you are a fan of oldie horror movies, here you will find some references of movies and horror books during the dialogue between these two characters. It reminds me those dialogues in some of SK books like Duma Key and Colorado Kid. YouTuber @TheShadesOfOrange has a great review⬇️

Gissy 3.5/3.7⭐️ I received this book from @Lyansoprano last year (2022) during @LittleChristmasSwap

Day 27 #Scarathlon Photo Challenge - Legend. There's a legend about Rotter House, but I won't find out what it is until next year because I probably won't finish my current read before Halloween. #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall

An excellent haunted house story! Perfect for the Halloween season of reading spooky books. Travel writer, Felix Allsey, is not your typical travel writer; he writes travelogues about haunted places. He seeks out the most haunted locations, inhabits the place, and writes books about his experiences. Felix thinks he has found the golden egg with Rotterdam Mansion, and that his career will skyrocket.

🎧 A fun short haunted house book! A writer (Felix) decides to spend 13 nights in a house where many multiple people over the centuries have been rumored to have been murdered!

It‘s his last ditch effort to save his marriage, his relationship with his BFF & career!

Great ending! Read this if you enjoy a haunted house story!

I really enjoyed this book especially the twist ending. Felix is a writer who decides to spend two weeks at Rotterdamn Mansion so he can experience ghosts and write about them. And then his friend Thomas shows up and so do the ghosts 👻

I really really enjoyed this one! This was a very fun read that definitely kept me guessing. The only complaint I have really is that I wish the ending had wrapped up a bit better. It left me wanting more.

BookwormAHN I'm looking forward to reading it. I love a haunted tale 🖤 2y

Oh em gee I loved this book!

A very self-aware horror/haunted house/psychological/body horror/ghost story that was creepy and funny, scary and dramatic, and kept me guessing until the end. Bonus: I added a bunch of mentioned horror movies and haunted house books to my to-do list as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ShelleyBooksie Was this one gory? I love a good spoke but I don't like a lot of violence/gore. 2y
sprainedbrain @ShelleyBooksie I wouldn‘t call it gory…it gets a little descriptive in that way at the end though. 2y
LeahBergen Ooo! Stacked! 2y
batsy This sounds good! If I work up the courage to read it, it'll have to be my "daytime book" ?? 2y

Really enjoyed this one! In large part due to its genre self awareness and the constant list of horror movies and books and tropes etc.
Also a perfect story to largely listen to and finish today given I drew the 3 of Swords. ♥️🗡️🗡️🗡️

So many other horror movie and book references in this! Including the one they just mentioned- the house next door. Which I just finished a book ago! Lol
The devil's in the coincidence!

So characters just got to the "master bedroom" and the one asks, so am I sleeping in the "slave quarters"? They both pause and finally main character asks if that's where that term comes from.
Fun fact: this is why on listings in Ontario, Canada (not sure if all Canada) now use "primary" instead of the word "master".

Felix, a struggling travel writer, is determined to write the most in-depth haunted house journal by staying in the notoriously haunted Rotter House for 2 weeks. What unfolds over the 12 nights is a homage to the most famous haunted house novels and movies out there. His downward spiral keeps us guessing to the very end. Who and what is haunting and being haunted? Loved it.

Darkly humorous tale that morphs into darkly terrifying. Paranormal travel writer and skeptic, Felix, plans to stay thirteen nights at Rotterdam Mansions, aka Rotter House. His old friend Thomas joins him, and the two reconnect over their shared love of horror films. But there are secrets and tension between the two friends, which the house seems to pick up on and amplify it. Very Room 1408 meets The Haunting of Hill House (the Netflix version).

I stayed up way too late to finish this. Have to admit I didn't see the ending coming, though there are some parts I think were clues. Going to have to look them over again. Loved the horror movie banter and the subtle horror that just went very quickly into crazy town. That last bit, gruesome. 😬

Reggie This sounds awesome!! 5y
night_shift @Reggie this review was my immediate reaction. I've mulled on it some and while I still liked it, definitely had its pacing/technical issues... plus when you really boil that ending down, it was just a cheap jump scare. I do appreciate the build-up and there were some genuinely creepy moments and one specifically 😬 still would suggest it though if you think it sounds interesting! 5y

The next two on my TBR! I got 12 Nights in the mail the other day, and I‘m a sucker for reading something before it‘s out, so it‘ll come first!
