"Addictive, angst-y, and heartfelt. Kirkus Reviews "Bright Burning Stars is the compulsively readable story. I was breathless and battling tears up until the very last stunning turns onstage and beyond. A dazzling, heart-wrenching debut. Nova Ren Suma, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Walls Around Us Best friends Marine Duval and Kate Sanders have trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School since childhood, where theyve formed an inseparable bond forged by respective family tragedies and a fierce love for dance. When the body of a student is found in the dorms just before the start of their final year, Marine and Kate begin to ask themselves what they would do to win the ultimate prize: to be the one girl selected to join the Operas prestigious corps de ballet. Would they die? Cheat? Seduce the most talented boy in the school, dubbed the Demigod, hoping his magic would make them shine, too? Neither girl is sure. But then Kate gets closer to the Demigod, even as Marine has begun to capture his heart. And as selection day draws near, the competitionfor the prize, for the Demigodbecomes fiercer, and Marine and Kate realize they have everything to lose, including each other. In Bright Burning Stars, debut author A. K. Small pens a stunning, propulsive story about girls at their physical and emotional extremes, the gutting power of first love, and what it means to fight for your dreams.

I chose this book for the publishing year 2019. I found this to be a solid read and the author really didn‘t shy away from some of the darker aspects of ballet. Story of friendship, competition, and demons that are oftentimes battled. #balletreads #19822022 #100readchallenge @Librarybelle

I feel like I have read a lot of ya about ballet this year. This one was ok, but not my favorite. The relationships are a little unreal to me. And how certain things, like starving oneself, are treated didn‘t work for me.

jmtrivera Tiny Pretty Things is hard to beat for YA ballet! 5y

This is a book about the deepest connections, friendships, and rivalries. What is the ultimate prize of joining the corps de ballet worth?
A lot of trigger warnings in this one from eating disorders, drug use, abortion, and suicide.

I was home sick with the flu today so decided to try to ease my fever pains with a bath and a good book. Not the most relaxing read, but it's a page-turner!
