Murder in an Irish Pub
Murder in an Irish Pub | Carlene O'Connor
6 posts | 7 read | 9 to read
When competing card sharps stir up Siobhn O'Sullivan's quiet Irish village, a poker tournament turns into a game of Hangman . . . In the small village of Kilbane in County Cork, for a cuppa tea or a slice of brown bread, you go to Naomi's Bistro, managed by the many siblings of the lively O'Sullivan brood. For a pint or a game of darts--or for the poker tournament that's just come to town--it's the pub you want. One player's reputation precedes him: Eamon Foley, a tinker out of Dublin, called the Octopus for playing like he has eight hands under the table. But when Foley is found at the end of a rope, swinging from the rafters of Rory Mack's pub, it's time for the garda to take matters into their own hands. Macdara Flannery would lay odds it's a simple suicide--after all, there's a note and the room was locked. But Siobhn suspects foul play, as does Foley's very pregnant widow. Perhaps one of Foley's fellow finalists just raised the stakes to life and death. With conflicting theories on the crime--not to mention the possibility of a proposal--tensions are running high between Siobhn and Macdara. Soon it's up to Siobhn to call a killer's bluff, but if she doesn't play her cards right, she may be the next one taken out of the game . . .

I enjoyed this! In the quiet Irish village of Kilbane, a poker tournament is underway, but is swiftly stalled when the top-ranked player is found dead in a pub. His body was found hanging, so the first impression by all, including the Garda, is suicide. But sharp Siobhan O‘Sullivan, new to the Garda (Irish police) isn‘t so convinced, and thinks it‘s murder. The big twist was one I didn‘t see coming!

This is my March pick for #seasonalcozies! I don‘t think it‘s set during St. Patrick‘s Day, but it is set in Ireland and at an Irish pub, so close enough, right? I hope! 🤞🏻

julieclair It absolutely counts! And it looks good! 9mo
BookmarkTavern I picked one from this series too! 💚 9mo

Quit trying to pull this shit in O'Sullivan's town. You're not going to get away with it.

This #cozy series is a favorite.

Cute little cozy mystery series where the amateur detective has now joined the Garda (Irish police.) The series and the author continue to improve. While not perfect, these books are better IMO than Joanne Fluke and Mary Daheim. This one is even a locked room mystery! 4.0/5.0 ⭐️ #2019

arlenefinnigan Think I'll read the first in this series for the #ReadHarder cozy mystery challenge. Thanks for the recommendation! 6y
rretzler @arlenefinnigan The earlier books in the series are not as good as this one but they do show some promise. If I recall the first one, it had a good plot, but the writing itself was a little rough. 6y
arlenefinnigan @rretzler cool. I'm prepared to overlook the fact that, like Joyce, she appears to have spelt Finnigan wrong 😉 6y
