For the Love of Board Games
For the Love of Board Games | Erin Dean

For the Love of Board Games is a book that explores how modern, popular board games were created by interviewing the designers behind the games. Stories in this book come from some of the industry's biggest board game designers: Matt Leacock, Jamey Stegmaier, Bruno Cathala, Richard Garfield, Reiner Knizia, and many others. Every chapter features a different board game designer and discusses not only the inspiration behind the game(s) they designed but how they started playing board games and got involved in the industry. Designers will also reveal stories about board games they designed, but never published! Readers will discover the fun facts and challenges behind some of their favorite board games. For the Love of Board Games is a must-have gift for tabletop gamers of all ages.

1. Meh, it‘s alright. This is the first year I set a reading goal for myself, but I‘m not stressing over it.
2. I have a plethora of board games. Day drinking and board games are always entertaining with a big group of people ???
3. So many genres! Rap/hip-hop, electronic, pop, rock, indie
4. January - fiancé and I will celebrate 10 years soon! ?
5. High five to my parents. They celebrated 34 years on the 21st! ?

So...not book related...but I'm so excited I had to share! I bought Gloomhaven today! It's a tabletop #boardgame that is essentially a huuuuuge fantasy campaign that 1-4 players co-op. The campaign is 100's of hours long (they say it's a good 6 months worth of material) and you level up your characters just like an RPG and...and...GUYS! I'm so freaking excited!

Anyone here ever play this...or hear about it?

annkuch13 Nice!! One of the ladies in work with is doing a gloomhaven campaign right now and it sounds amazing! 6y
InLibrisVeritas Oooo, this sounds awesome!! 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @annkuch13 @InLibrisVeritas Its pretty dang expensive here in Canada, which is why I never got it. One of our stores had it for 40% off today though so I finally got it! I am beyond excited! 🤸‍♂️ 6y

litenthusiast I've heard of it and am really want to play it, but it is so expensive. When you play, please post about it because I'm really curious. 6y
Vinjii OMG I WANT THIS GAME 🥰🥰🥰 I‘ve heard of it and I want to play it but I‘m not sure it‘ll work for 2 players and we‘re two. 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @Vinjii it'll work fine for 2 players. You can even solo it if you want. The game is anywhere from 1-4 players max, although, they say the sweet spot is 3. 🤷‍♂️ 6y
Vinjii @GrilledCheeseSamurai Yeah. I‘ve seen in reviews that it doesn‘t really shine with two so I wasn‘t prepared to drop that kind of money 😰 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @Vinjii Hmmm. My buddy & his wife have been playing it for a year now (it's how I originally heard about it) and they love it. They both play 2 characters each though so that's probably why. 🤷‍♂️ 6y

Vinjii @GrilledCheeseSamurai Oh. I‘ll have to consider that idea! Thank you 😍😊 6y
magicalshelves Oooh! I love tabletop games but haven‘t done much RPGs. Tried DnD and it kind of flopped. 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @magicalshelves Aww. That's too bad it flopped. I'm a huge D&D nerd. Been playing ever since I was little. There are tons of RPG style tabletop boardgames out there with more structure. Any of your local game shops could help point you in the right direction. 😊 6y
night_shift 😮 this sounds really cool! I've seen it in my local board game store, but I can't even keep my group together for DnD. It's SO expensive, maybe one day though! 6y
