#buttercups
I cannot remember when I have seen these in my yard- childhood memories of picking them with my sibs & checking under our chins for that yellow glow. Maybe its because my husband loves dandelions so we did not mow our lawn - it‘s getting mowed today, so I rescued some buttercups.

kezzlou85 Oh yes I remember doing that. Holding them under your chin to see if it glows. 3y
RedxoHearts I've always loved the buttercups growing wild here. I've never noticed yellow ones though we have pink ones here all over. 3y
BookBabe I loved picking those as a child! 😃 They bring such happy memories. 3y

Spring in my yard today!

To The Dandelion
Dear common flower,that grow‘st beside the way,
Fringing the dusty road with harmless gold!
First pledge of of blithesome May,…

Pickpick

This little book of poetry is organized by seasons of the year and the poems are listed as the flowers would start to bloom in spring through winter and then a few about the language of flowers. There is some variety of timeline, but the bulk are from the 18th century to the mid 20th century. Several stood out for me as excellent, but I mostly liked them overall. They put me in a quiet, sentimental mood filled with lovely images from the past.

The organization and formatting of this book wasn‘t as clean/logical as usual for the Everyman‘s Pocket Poetry series. Many of the poems did not draw me in bu about 10-15 were fantastic. Also, I learned about flowers I didn‘t know before and looked them up to understand the poem better. There‘s also a cool language of flowers glossary like the Victorian flower language.

Palimpsest This is the book I hinted to my husband to get me for Valentine‘s Day and I didn‘t get anything. I have a Christmas Poems and Poems of Paris one by Everyman that I love. I guess I‘ll just get it for myself. 🤷‍♀️😆 5y

#PoetryMatters #Flowers #Day16

They are terribly white:
There is snow on the ground,
And a moon on the snow at night;
The sky is cut by the winter light;
Yet I, who have all these things in ken,
Am struck to the heart by the chiselled white
Of this handful of cyclamen.

—Katherine Bradley and Edith Cooper
