The award-winning author of You Bring the Distant Near explores identity, homecoming, and the legacy of assault in this personal and ambitious new novel. Katina King is the reigning teen jujitsu champion of Northern California, but shes having trouble fighting off the secrets in her past. Robin Thornton was adopted from an orphanage in India and is reluctant to take on his future. If he cant find his roots, how can he possibly plan ahead? Robin and Kat meet in the most unlikely of placesa summer service trip to Kolkata to work with survivors of human trafficking. As bonds build between the travelmates, Robin and Kat discover that justice and healing are tangled, like the pain of their pasts and the hope for their futures. You cant rewind life; sometimes you just have to push play. In turns heart wrenching, beautiful, and buoyant, Mitali Perkins's new novel focuses its lens on the ripple effects of violenceacross borders and generationsand how small acts of heroism can break the cycle.

A handful of my #JanuaryTBR. I am looking forward to them all, but particularly Forward Me Back to You by the fabulous Mitali Perkins. (Bonus: she's a #BetsyTacy fan.) #NewYearNewYou

High schoolers that do volunteer work the right way. I hope this book inspires others to help keep "canaries from wolves". Absolutely inspirational.

I loved You Bring the Distance Near & had high hopes for this book which, ultimately, I liked but didn‘t love. It‘s the story of 2 teens—Kat, struggling after an incident at school, & Robin, who was born in India & then adopted by an affluent American family—who meet in a church group & then travel to India to help combat human trafficking. Adoption, identity, human trafficking, culture, appropriation, healing, & forgiveness in this good YA read.

😂

(One of the first, but undoubtedly not the last, Marvel references I have come across in a new YA book.)

suzisteffen I love Mitali Perkins‘ books - she‘s pretty great too, at least what I‘ve known of her from the Children‘s Literature listserv and its extremely wimpy successor, Facebook. Can‘t wait to start this one and am now laughing at the Marvel ref! 6y

My husband @ChrisSmithIndy and I are reading this together...although it‘s hard to find time to do so! But “read a book with you” was one of his gifts from me for his birthday, so I can‘t leave him behind. #slowreading #coreading #bookspouse
