The Military Wife
The Military Wife: Heart of a Hero | Laura Trentham
10 posts | 8 read | 7 to read
A young widow embraces a second chance at life when she reconnects with those who understand the sacrifices made by American soldiers and their families in award-winning author Laura Trenthams The Military Wife. Harper Lee Wilcox has been marking time in her hometown of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina since her husband, Noah Wilcoxs death, nearly five years earlier. With her son Ben turning five and living at home with her mother, Harper fights a growing restlessness, worried that moving on means leaving the memory of her husband behind. Her best friend, Allison Teague, is dealing with struggles of her own. Her husband, a former SEAL that served with Noah, was injured while deployed and has come home physically healed but fighting PTSD. With three children underfoot and unable to help her husband, Allison is at her wits end. In an effort to reenergize her own life, Harper sees an opportunity to help not only Allison but a network of other military wives eager to support her idea of starting a string of coffee houses close to military bases around the country. In her pursuit of her dream, Harper crosses paths with Bennett Caldwell, Noahs best friend and SEAL brother. A man who has a promise to keep, entangling their lives in ways neither of them can foresee. As her business grows so does an unexpected relationship with Bennett. Can Harper let go of her grief and build a future with Bennett even as the man they both loved haunts their pasts?

Surprisingly good. A sweet romance without shying away from the difficulties that face so many service members. The coffee shop plot was almost a throwaway; there really was plenty of story without it, but it wasn‘t bad, just extraneous. Reading it was like watching an episode of Army Wives and I felt good when I got to the end. I hope this turns into a series because I‘d read the shit out of it.

SO COLD today. I need something easy and potentially sweet to combat the fact that it‘s currently 16F outside. Something that will be perfect for curling up with a blanket and the dogs after lunch.

What a moving piece of fiction this story was! It had many layers that dealt with hard issues in such a real way. What I loved about reading it was that this story weaved very difficult issues between layers of friendship, ambition, and love. There is so much to feel when reading this book and I highly recommend that you get your hands on a copy! Interested? Even though this might have been a tad predictable, overall I enjoyed it and found it to be bittersweet but ultimately joyful. The heroine Harper seemed a little uneven at times in some of her actions/choices, but as she faced a confusing situation, I can understand her waffling a bit better. I haven‘t read many military romances, but this one was well done. 4/5⭐️
Thanks to #NetGalley and #StMartinsPress for the ARC.
Out Feb. 5.

Jas16 I was surprised by how much I liked this one. 6y
robinb @Jas16 Me too. I don‘t have a lot of experience with this sub genre but found I liked this one quite a bit. My favorite characters ended up being the men in the story (Bennett and Noah), which I found a little surprising. 😊 6y
