Gossip Girl: It Had to Be You
Gossip Girl: It Had to Be You: The Gossip Girl Prequel | Cecily von Ziegesar
Welcome to New York City's Upper East Side, where my friends and I live in luxe Fifth Avenue apartments and attend Manhattan's most exclusive private schools. We're smart, we've inherited classic good looks, we wear fantastic clothes, and we know how to party. We can't help it-we were born this way. Our story begins with three inseparable, completely gorgeous fifteen-year-olds, Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, and Nate Archibald. Blair's loved Nate and his glittering green eyes since she was in Bonpoint onesies. Too bad Nate wishes Blair's beautiful best friend, Serena, was the one with the crush. And Serena has a secret she's keeping from them both. Hmmm, something tells me these best friends may not be as close as we thought. . . . How do I know all this? Because I know everything-and lucky for you, I can't keep a secret. So sit back while I untangle this messy little tale and tell you how it all began. Admit it, you're already falling for me. You know you love me. gossip girl

I used to really like Cornwell, but the last couple books of hers I read were a mess, so I figured I‘d give her one more shot and, frankly, she made it easy for me. Thin plot with lots of holes, forgettable characters and a nonsensical ending. Sorry, Ms Cornwell, but we‘re all done. I‘ve already unshelved the two others of hers I haven‘t read yet and they‘re in the donation box.

TrishB I gave up a while ago! How did she go so down hill 🤷‍♀️ 2y
Hooked_on_books @TrishB My mom gave up on her years ago. You too saw the light way before me. I often wonder if some writers get enough fame that either their editors stop paying as much attention or maybe the writers refuse the edits and their work goes downhill. Regardless, it‘s sad to enjoy someone‘s work and then find the quality just isn‘t there anymore. 2y
Centique @TrishB I know what you both mean. I was such a massive fan in the early years 😢 2y
TrishB @Centique me too, loved Scarpetta! 2y

Neat find at my local thrift store - a UK version of this book. This book is short and kept me turning pages as there was a lot going on between the characters in the book. I look forward to checking out the next book in this series.

I really enjoy the Kay Scarpetta series. This book felt like it was written by a different author. The writing felt juvenile and unfocused. It was very simplistic and many times it felt like events weren't explained. The ending was a big WTF moment, not because it was shocking but because it made no sense. I do not recommend this book at all.

TheSpineView Now I know not to read. Thanks! 6y
OutsmartYourShelf I love the first 6 or 7 in this series, but after that it seems to go downhill. 6y
dragondrool I also love the Scarpetta books but can't seem to get into her other books. 6y

Double spaced. Doesn‘t feel like that many words per page. This should be a quick read.

Alternative_Mr_Men Never assume! Books are sneaksy... 6y

Meh. Maybe 2.5 stars. Apparently I started with the wrong Patricia Cornwell, because this book sucked. Like it was really bad. Not only was it cliche and cheesy (OBVIOUS AF) but the characters were all egotistical douches. I couldn't connect with any of them. The writing was SO contrived and don't even let me get started on that plot.

Which one you ask?

Yeah.

Because there are like 5 and none come together well at the end of the book.

Here are a couple of my currently reading books! The Front is meh so far, and the other one is just...No. Definitely not. 😨😨😨

I should have expected that, considering all of the books I'm reading right now have a 3.5 or less rating, but you all know I'm willing to try anything and give it a chance. 😊😊😊

These are also part of my challenge to read all of my shorter books. Still a lot to go, but at least I'm sticking with it.
