At times this book was motivating . Other times this book was boring. Overall, it opened my eyes to how the system sets you up to be a cog in the machine.

Bestselling author and blogger Seth Godin argues that in this economy, you can't just follow the rules and be taken care of. You need to take initiative and make human connections with your customers, making yourself indispensable along the way by going above and beyond. I was initially put off by the fact that there's no road map for how to do that - but that's part of his point. It's a bit repetitive but he brings some challenging ideas.

This was a week. I succumbed to what Seth Godin calls the “Lizard Brain‘ where you doubt your own skills and abilities. I studied Godin‘s work a lot last year, and being able to recognize when “Lizard Brain” kicks in has helped. A friend shared this quote with me, and I thought it was appropriate for the end of a shitty week.

The new American Dream. Work today isn't about putting your head down, following instructions, and sucking it up. That was the old American Dream, Godin says.

JillMoore1226 I need this book in my life. Thanks! 9y
