I struggled to find the flow with this one, the timeline jumps around so much that just as I thought I was getting into it things would change. However, it is a good story, very clever ending which ties everything satisfyingly together. Tilly is just adorable.

I‘m so surprised to see so many “so-so” ratings. I really liked this book. Maybe it is because I listened to the audiobook and I think the narrator did a fabulous job. It‘s definitely a quirky story, but Tilly is so endearing that it won me over.

This was an interesting read but it jumps around a lot which wasnt always the easiest to follow. The plot was slow and steady but for me the ending felt a little flat. I wanted more. At times events seemed rushed like her relationship with Daniel. I did like the diary entries interspersed throughout the text giving us an insight into her mother more. A nice story but didn't quite appeal to me enough. #Netgalley 3*

I'll lead with Queenie Malone has fantastic reviews on Goodreads. Ruth Hogan definitely has a following and I would be interested in reading more.

I didn't love this book though. I love the premise, I love the characters, I love the magical realism at play. I didn't love the last third of the book. It was a rushed ending that didn't match up to the rest of the book. I felt a little cheated from a much fuller, deserving end for Tilly.

Tilly was a bright, outgoing little girl who liked playing with ghosts and matches. She loved fizzy drinks, swear words, fish fingers and Catholic churches, but most of all she loved living in Brighton in Queenie Malone's Magnificent Paradise Hotel with its loving family of misfits.
But Tilly's childhood was shattered when her mother sent her away to boarding school with little explanation and no warning. ⬇️

JoScho Now, Tilda has grown into an independent woman still damaged by her mother's unaccountable cruelty. Wary of people, her only friend is her dog, Eli. But when her mother dies, Tilda goes back to Brighton and with the help of her beloved Queenie sets about unraveling the mystery of her exile from The Paradise Hotel and discovers that her mother was not the woman she thought she knew at all ... 5y

I love this author but this was not my favorite book of hers. I can't put my finger on why though? Too "over done" is what comes to mind. The characters were amazing as usual. I liked the dual timeline but the plot just kept going. It still gets a decent 3 stars on my list. Tilda comes to terms with her relationship with her somewhat estranged mother by going through her things after she passes. Painful secrets are brought to light.

Another Goodreads win that I'm starting today ahead of Ten Thousand Doors of January. Only because I feel like I should read and review the ARC first. Excited for Queenie Malone, more excited to get to January though!! 📚

Heavily sunscreened and shaggy haired boys are playing with their water toys in the background. Sunny and 80 here in Ohio.

I absolutely loved every page of this book. It‘s heartwarming and kept me guessing until the last page. I can‘t wait to read another of her books. Please please read this when it goes on sale next month

“The two wing-backed easy chairs in the sitting room are the epitome of abominable ghastliness and are going. Definitely. Aside from the fact that they are of a shape and design that can only be described as ‘Old People‘s Home‘ chic, they are covered in an eyepopping chintz that looks as though it has been created by Cath Kidston on LSD.”.....I like this already
