William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Mean Girls
William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Mean Girls | Ian Doescher
24 posts | 13 read | 32 to read
Power struggles. Bitter rivalries. Jealousy. Betrayals. Star-crossed lovers. When you consider all these plot points, its pretty surprising William Shakespeare didnt write Mean Girls. But now fans can treat themselves to the epic dramaand heroic hilarityof the classic teen comedy rendered with the wit, flair, and iambic pentameter of the Bard. Our heroine Cady disguises herself to infiltrate the conniving Plastics, falls for off-limits Aaron, struggles with her allegiance to newfound friends Damian and Janis, and stirs up age-old vendettas among the factions of her high school. Best-selling author Ian Doescher brings his signature Shakespearean wordsmithing to this cult classic beloved by generations of teen girls and other fans. Now, on the 15th anniversary of its release, Mean Girls is a recognized cultural phenomenon, and its more than ready for an Elizabethan makeover.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I read Doescher‘s Shakespeare “Clueless” Elizabethan makeover a few years ago, and loved every moment. It‘s my fave movie of all time so zero prep needed. I did, however, need to rewatch “Mean Girls” before this, and I‘m so glad I did. Doescher is funny and incredibly clever. I really enjoyed this “retelling” whilst picturing the brilliant film cast in my mind. Fans must read! #coverlove

vivastory I have enjoyed his Star Wars retellings in the same style 6mo

It‘s Wednesday! And I‘ve marked the occasion with my pink cardigan and my “she doesn‘t even go here” badge 💕

I‘m having a good week - yesterday I held a baby kangaroo (just an average day at the library 😅) and today I signed a lease for a sweet little apartment in a suburb I‘m excited to live in. I move in mid next month - and I‘m very excited at the prospect of not filling in any more applications and of being reunited with my bookshelves 🥹

Susanita Great news about your new place! And about the baby kangaroo 🦘😀 1y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Susanita, thank you! Coco the Kangaroo also did a wee on the carpet much to the horror of the children present. Never a dull moment at the library during school holidays. 1y
AmyG Congrats on your new apartment! 1y

Picked this up from the local library. So far it‘s hilarious. Just a fun read to take a break from the more serious/intense things that I‘ve been reading lately (like my animal anatomy textbook!).

I am so mentally exhausted by everything happening. Today was our first day of homeschool which added a whole new level of stress.
Haven had a horseback riding lesson today so I used the time to read this book, which is the movie Mean Girls written in Shakespearean iambic pentameter and yes, it is hilarious!

marleed And you posted on a Wednesday. I hope you‘re wearing pink! (edited) 5y
kyraleseberg @marleed 🤣 I actually did wear a pink t-shirt today and didn't make that connection until just now!!! 😂 5y

Yesterday, I listened to the full-cast audiobook, and it is laugh laugh-out-loud entertaining. Realizing it was a Wednesday, I even changed into a pink sweater for the third act! If you are a fan of the movie, Mean Girls, treat yourself to this Shakespearean remix. ...I was thinking I should push it forward in favor of more Octoberish reads, but look at this cover!

ElizaMarie It looks super interesting!!! 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Oooh! Full cast recording you say... I have the paperback but it‘d be amazing on audio! 5y
marleed @ElizaMarie It‘s just fun! @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I had so much fun listening that I really want the physical book now! 5y

GUYS, this book was freaking amazing! As a diehard Mean Girls fan and a true lover of Shakespeare, I will admit I was worried this wasn‘t going to hit the mark for me... BUT man was I wrong! It was actually laugh out loud hilarious and I loved every minute of the audiobook. I‘m going to have to go and get my hands on the physical copy to have for my shelves. Any for anyone who knows me, knows I almost NEVER keep books after reading. But I need it!

marleed I just placed a hold - 2 on one copy - about 4 weeks! 5y
Clwojick @marleed I‘m waiting for my library get a copy of 5y

So excited about this fun read I found recently, the perfect book for you if you‘re a Shakespeare nerd or a Mean Girls fan. 💕

This is written in iambic pentameter and is almost word-for-word with the movie. Very clever and such a cute concept. Can‘t wait to start this one! 😊

I thought this was a joke at first, so funny! A book with a "what if Shakespeare had written Mean Girls?" premise ?

I'll be honest I never would have sought out this book to read on my own but it was given to me and I really enjoyed it. Taken directly from Tina Fey's 2004 film Mean Girls the author rewrote it as a Shakespearean play. I enjoyed the humor hidden within, mathletes speaking with math themed dialog while other nouns not being replaceable still made it into the book like 'Taco Bell' and 'school buses' while other statements more hidden.

tammysue Ooh sounds like a must read to me! 🤣 6y
