Why is it that some people feel such a strong urge to control other people and deny those others their freedom? I guess that‘s the question of eternity. ☹️

I‘m almost through book Two! I found another super creepy character. Meet Jesús de Sade, pictured above. ?

esurient So rife with creepy characters! 6y
SqueakyChu @esurient Indeed! I love the imagination and detail that goes into these villains drawn by Steve Dillon. 6y

I just got sucked into the Preacher series. Someone left all seven books in my #LittleFreeLibrary so now I have to read the whole series! They are so offensive and yet quite funny at times. Anyone else here read them? Your thoughts?!

esurient Raunchy, gory, often horrific, spiced with humor, with regular moments of real grace. I love this series. Kudos on the lucky find! 6y
SqueakyChu @esurient I was kind of bowled over by Book 1, but now that I can follow the story, I think it‘s brilliant. The subtlety of it can easily be overlooked. The humor just pops out in unexpected places! 6y
esurient There are so many spoilerly details I'd like to squee over, but I'll refrain. Have you read other works by Garth Ennis? I mean to start The Boys, but haven't found the time yet. 6y

SqueakyChu @esurient Thanks for not spilling the spoilers! This is my first work by Garth Ennis. I know it won‘t be my last. I‘m really proud that I made it past the offensiveness of the beginning of the book to get to discover it more in depth. 😊 6y
esurient That is a thing to be proud of! 6y
SqueakyChu @esurient I really worked at it though! LOL! I went back to reread the first part of book 1 to understand it better. Now I‘m good. 😃 6y
SqueakyChu Oh, the creepy characters in this book!! Pictured here is Gran‘ma. 😲 6y
SqueakyChu @esurient I think I finally “get” this series. It‘s an “adult” satire of Super Heroes. I never could get into those, but my grandson introduced me to his favorite. I can see the pull of those now, looking at it from a different perspective, of course! Haha!! 6y
SqueakyChu @esurient I absolutely love this series. I‘m already on Volume Seven. There are only two more books to go. I‘ll be sad when I finish them all. I‘ve never read anything quite like this before. The author does all things politically incorrect with such starkness and grace. Wow! A lesson in contrasts. (edited) 6y
esurient I entirely agree. Love the juxtapositioning here. 6y

LeeRHarry That looks delicious!!! 7y
No_One @LeeRHarry I really like it. I just cooked frozen tempura haddock in the oven, smooshed some avocado on a tortilla, some coleslaw mix and the sauce. Easy peasy. I'm not fancy. 😊 7y

This graphic novel is so gritty and dark and very different from the show. Can't wait for Volume 3.

Scurvygirl I did enjoy the show! Will have to try the graphic novels. 8y

As part of my reading resolutions I am going to try and read one graphic novel a week. Going to work my way through this series first.

DeborahSmall I haven't read a graphic novel in 20 years so definitely one of my resolutions. Think I'll go for fight club 2 and this 👍🏼 8y
Joybishoptx I love Preacher. It's dated but so much fun. Have you seen the tv show? 8y
Lauren.Archer @Joybishoptx Yes, I read volume 1 prior to the show. It was very different but liked it a lot. 8y

Not as good as the First one, but really good anyway. Except for all that Jesus whatever at the beginning, 😕

My New bookbag! This kind of art is called xilogravura and is used in the northeast of Brazil to reprensent the strugles of the people who live in the interior of the states
That art is also used in the literatura de cordel, little books that Tell stories and used to spread News when there was no light and tv at this places (things are different now, but the cordel still exists and is part of Brasil's culture).
