A heart-wrenching tale of motherhood, friendship, love, and the strength of women set in the 1970s. The story follows Ginny and Ab, a couple whose seemingly perfect life masks deeper issues. When Ginny gives birth to a daughter with Downs Syndrome, the child is whisked away and placed in an institution. Years later, when Ginny discovers the institution may be unsafe, a fierce maternal instinct drives her to action. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ❤️📚

Greenwood always knows how to tug at my heart strings. While this book isn't her strongest, imo, it was a sweet, emotional ride about a mother's love 🥺

🌟🌟🌟1/2

A very readable story following a mother on the run after freeing her child with Down syndrome from a horrible school for the disabled. Although this lagged a bit in the middle and seemed like it meandered, it came back full force towards the end.

Just about as schmaltzy and saccharine as you might expect. When Ginny‘s second child is born with Down syndrome, the baby is taken away and put into care. It‘s the late 1960s. Two years later, an investigation into the facility reveals gross mistreatment of the children. Ginny goes to see for herself and the next thing you know she‘s on the run with her bestie, her six-year-old son and her daughter. Book club pick, or I would‘ve never read it.

Awesome story of a mother who gives birth to aDown‘s Syndrome afflicted daughter in 1961. Her husband convinces her to institutionalize her at birth. Then she discovers the awful reputation of the “school” where her daughter has been for 2 years. Compelling .

Having dinner with my parents ~ only 4 chapters in and I'm angry. Of course, I had just been born when this story began so I have no concept of what the world was like. We have to keep challenging what others think.... We have to stand up even when no one else will!

This story is set in the late 60s early 70s,at a time when woman took there husbands word with out questioning, when people were ignorant about the the disabled. This is a fictional story but was based on an institute in Massachusetts that existed. But this was mostly about a mother who ended up being courageous who loved her daughter and was willing to test her boundaries to save her.

Greenwood is an automatic-buy author for me. Her first book was amazing and this one is just as compulsively readable. While the subject is heart-wrenching—a newborn with Downs is stolen from her mom and committed to a “school”—Greenwood writes beautiful my of a mother‘s love. The ending was a bit tidy, but I loved it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley

Wow, this was an extremely fast read. I have so many emotions on this one. This story is based on a real institution in MA. There are so many moments I just wanted to cry and was completely disgusted. Though this is a hard read, but totally worth it.

Mediocre. It had lots of potential, but some of the story was dull and some was far-fetched, and what was left was the story I would have loved to see more of: Ginny being a mother to Lucy.

5 ★ I loved this heart touching, emotional and inspiring journey of Ginny‘s unbreakable love for her child. Her resilience fighting against everything she‘s been told to accept was timeless. Some content was especially sensitive bringing me to tears. Amazing story! I highly recommend. ❥

KEEPING LUCY is a moving book about family, loss, betrayal, and a mother‘s love, and redemption. My favorite part was when Ginny walked out of Willowridge with her daughter in her arms, and later when Lucy spoke her first word—“moon.” ... https://www.bluestockingreviews.com/post/keeping-lucy

My heart seemed to swell as Ginny‘s maternal instincts took over. While she may have questioned her instincts it was clear that she would do whatever it took to ensure her children were well cared for. The story evokes so many different emotions that I can‘t imagine anyone not being touched by it. I have already been recommending this book to others.

Only half an hour in @24in48 but I did finish up this wonderful #ARC. It‘s a unique and compelling twist on The Awakening trope that‘s become so common in historical fiction. Sometimes it‘s done really well, and this was one of those times. I really enjoyed this journey. #24in48

Greenwood's writing is great. She effortlessly draws the reader in and deftly balances the delicate subject matter with the story that was based on real events. I think she kept the writing given the horrific reports of those institutions. It could be argued that this did the novel a disservice however, I think it worked. Ginny was naive and passive and this type of character couldn't shoulder a heavier plot with a deeper exploration.

Finished this book earlier today. I think I was reading while easily distracted and I wasn‘t really fully invested in the story. Overall it was all a bit cliche and the writing was a little tepid. Having enjoyed Rust & Stardust I was expecting more from this novel. #MoreMehThanYeah 😬 Now I feel the need to end the year on a better book!!! But I need something short & something on my Kindle.

Bklover There are lots of Kindle specials right now. Can you get them where you are? 6y
