This was a pretty interesting book that used different types of media to tell the story (journal entries, chats, texts, and prose). It definitely was suspenseful with the story being told from so many different perspectives combining a ghost story with a horrible act that everyone is trying to solve. The end was not what I expected at all, but in some ways, I felt like it fell a little flat. I liked it overall and would definitely recommend!
I just finished a great suspense and wasn‘t sure what I wanted to dive into next. I picked this up and once I read page 1 I knew I couldn‘t put this one down. I think every young person should read this as with today‘s electronic obsession you can certainly see how this could be a true story.
Three 12 year old girls who have been researching the man at the center of a local urban legend sneak out & go to the train yard, where one of them gets severely beaten. But who‘s to blame?
It‘s certainly a compelling plot & brings to mind news reports surrounding murky figures such as slender man. Gudenkauf had me hooked! She does a good job of providing plenty of suspects for the reader. Saw the twist coming but I couldn‘t put this book down!
My first read by this author and I‘m not compelled to read more. The storyline seemed really simplistic and some of the narrators were over-explainers. The audio may have done it a disservice. An okay read but, just okay.
Morning audio booking while I prepare our Thanksgiving meal. Giving thanks today for this kind, supportive, gracious and thoughtful community.
The thing I loved most about this book is the way the story is told. Through not only multiple (but not too many) points of view, but also through journal entries and texts and IMs. I love when a story is told creatively like that. The story itself was good but felt repetitive and dragged at about the 3/4 mark. I feel like the ending was supposed to shock me more than it did. Overall good book though.

Holy twists! Inspired, no doubt, by the Slender Man case, this thriller keeps you guessing. If you liked this, definitely check out another Slender Man inspired book, Mister Tinder's Girl- although it's a very different take on it.
A gripping thriller about three young girlfriends, a dark obsession and a chilling crime that shakes up a quiet Iowa town, from the New York Times bestselling author of The Weight of Silence. For twelve-year-old Cora Landry and her friends Violet and Jordyn, it was supposed to be an ordinary sleepover—movies and Ouija and talking about boys.
✨So far so good!
The reason why I have so much extra time to read right now...a stress fracture brought on by too much running. No running for six weeks (I‘ve got four weeks left 😢), no running the three half marathons I signed up for this fall/winter...BUT more time to read! So there is a silver lining at least 😊
Starting this book tonight.

Enjoyed it. 3 middle school girls have a sleepover and their lives are changed forever. 4 🌟 out of 5.
This was a good read but not as gripping as I thought it would be after reading reviews, I feel like I missed something. Very unexpected ending.
Clever writing by Heather Gudenkauf though she knows how to make you like/dislike characters. I really disliked Jordyn!
Woo wee. That was a ride. Read in one sitting. Couldnt put it down. Believable story line about middle school girls working on a school project that turns dangerous. Story told from multiple perspectives through texts, emails, journals, police reports and eye witnesses accounts. Story about peer pressure, fitting in and dangerous middle school drama. Excellent read! 🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪
Before She Was Found is a timely and gripping thriller about friendship, bullying and betrayal. It‘s about the power of social pressure and the price of needing to fit in. Cora, Violet and Jordyn‘s characters were so typical of twelve year old girls... https://www.bluestockingreviews.com/blog/before-she-was-found
Happy birthday to me :) Just has to do some book shopping for my birthday :) #whichtoreadfirst #birthdaybooks #lovethem
Finished this week, my first by this author i I was interested due to its inspiration of the true-life Slender Man case where 2 12-year-old girls stab another girl to impress an urban legend. It takes some different turns that kept me guessing but some of my attachment to the characters was diluted because of the many POVs. Still I liked it & would read another. Paired with a Cheese Pizza (made Keto with extras) for my book tour review. Links👇🏻
No words can describe the rollercoaster of emotions I just went through reading this book. The twists and turns made me unable to put this book down. If you are a fan of true crime, thrillers, and mysteries, you are in for a treat with this one.
The best part of being a lie-berry-an is this kind of business.
The only reason I put it down was because I had to clean the kitchen.
My finished vegetarian Easy Taco Soup topped with lettuce, avocado, cheese, olives, green onion, cilantro, lime & fried tortilla strips. Totally hit the spot for Cinco de Mayo lunch & for my #soupersundays blog post. Link to 🌮🍲recipe is 👇🏻in comments.
With my current read for a blog tour review later this week. Only about a third in, but good so far. 👍
AMAZING!!! Such a good book. 💜💜💜 Heather Gudenkauf always addresses modern day issues in an entertaining, dark and serious issues. One of my must read authors.
The book focuses on preteen female frenemies, social media, consequences, secrets, and so so much more.
I grew up hearing about our local urban legends. There‘s just something about the thrill of it.. goosebumps, spine tingles, second guessing.. is it true? a hoax? This gave me all those vibes. Three 12yr olds researching a school assignment on their local urban legend, a sleepover, sneaking out in the dead of night to an abandoned rail-yard. A slow burner that pulled me in up until it‘s true reveal at the end!

I finally met one of my favorite local authors @heathergudenkauf tonight at @prairielightsbooks. I enjoyed hearing her read and speak about her newest book BEFORE SHE WAS FOUND. I do what I can when Macey needs to go to an author reading for a class paper😁🤷♀️ #worldbookday #bookhomework #litsy #bookstagram #authorreading #iowaauthor
I‘ve read or listened to most of Gudenkauf‘s earlier novels, so I‘m always on the lookout for her latest! This one is an excitingly tense read- with characters that come to life, a twisting plot and a multimedia approach that amplifies the pacing! I couldn‘t put it down!!!
This was a creepy story about an attack on a 12 year old girl. Though it isn‘t listed as a true crime book, I think it would appeal to readers of this genre. https://www.instagram.com/p/BwTI_sBngp7/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=l1zie3...
