4/5⭐ Not an easy book. It depicts the grim reality of living in the USA as a Native American woman: the racism, police brutality, sexual assault & rape, murder, kidnapping, cultural annihilation, dehumanization, & injustice at every level possible. The author's voice shines through with so many emotions & self-reflections. These are the historical & current issues that can't be brushed under a rug & can't continue to be unrepaired. #roll100

Picked up an unassuming (book jacket-less) hardback at the local library book store and was rewarded with this inscription! So I had to get it and I‘m excited to start this one I‘d never heard of before.

8little_paws I thought that said "to biggie" and I was imagining someone gave that book with inscription to biggie smalls 6y

2 most recent audiobooks I've completed. Lakota Woman was the only book about Native Americans that I've read that wasn't a history of Native Americans-so that was exciting. Narrator was excellent. In this book she recounts her life & all the badassery she's been a part of, including being 9 months pregnant at Wounded Knee. Born a Crime was incredible- Trevor Noah's narration is hilarious, his story is amazing, and speaking of badass- his MOM!👍🏼

Got some education books for Dec-Jan/Feb. Here is what I will be studying- poverty, race, justice, dissent, and hope. I love that I get to pick my own education.

This was my reading view this morning over the bluff! Too bad the kitten was too distracting to get any reading done haha 😂

MemoirsForMe Beautiful sight, but it looks very chilly too. Stay warm and happy reading! 🌞 8y
WordWaller @Bookzombie I bet! We'll get sick of it as soon as Christmas is over here in MinneSNOWta. @TheLondonBookworm yep, we sometimes get it even before Halloween!! Up here the weather is absolutely cray cray and can get to 30 BELOW! What I wouldn't give for a rainy season instead, sometimes 😉😜 8y
WordWaller @UwannaPublishme thanks! It's actually not too bad out. Around 30 so the snow keeps melting then falling again haha. Makes for impossible weather to go outside in though unless you wanna get messy! So I am definitely using the excuse to stay inside and read (: not much to do out here in the country anyway 😉 8y

Started this today and already my heart is full of sorrow. What a story of resilience, survival, and bravery. I haven't read enough Native American/Indigenous People's literature but I intend to fix that. #overthis #NoDAPL

readinginthedark Also second @vivastory and Sherman Alexie, although Reservation Blues is my favorite of his. 8y
vivastory @readinginthedark That's going to be my next Alexie novel. I'm also eager to dive into his stories. 8y
Bookartbookmarks Is one of my favorites. It is fiction and not necessarily about native Americans directly it's good! 8y
