Moving on to book two in the Empirium Trilogy. I found a copy at Ollie‘s for $2.99!!!! I really enjoyed the first one and am looking forward to where the story will continue to go. For those of you who have read this, who is your favorite character?

I have to confess that I couldn't care less about Rielle but I started to like Elaina. I especially liked how the characters were portrayed, not as a contrasting hero vs villain but rather with many shades in between and there is a fine line which easily can be crossed. Though I'm impressed by the complexity of the narrative I again was annoyed that the chapters were switching abruptly to another POV. Still I was glued to the last 150 pages.
For those of you who are interested @rachelsbrittain and I have decided to bring our bookstagram and blog back. If any of you are on Instagram we'd love to connect.

I am SO glad I didn't read this until I had the final book in hand because....well....pretty sure I woke the BF up in the middle of the night when I yelled in rage.
Right into Lightbringer today and it better be good because I am NOT happy right now (but in the best kind of way) 😖

The last week or so have been stressful. Christmas, Rona, work, mouthy teens and a baby in the house learning to get into EVERYTHING! I haven't had much time to sit let alone read more than a chapter at night. Tonight, I just need peace. The gods must have heard me because I have a tub filled with HOT water for the first time in months! Officially on Do Not Disturb for the next hour 😉

The first was a bit difficult to follow, but this one easily makes up for all of it. This storyline really delves into the connection between Rielle and Elina, as it goes past their shared blood. They both experience the same basic scenarios, even with the different company and how they react to everything. We know from the first which woman is which queen, now we see why she went that way, and this book takes much needed time to explain the war
“Did she really think I was going to hurt you?” [...] “She said nothing of the sort. Can you read minds now as well?”
She fixed him with a hard stare. “A woman doesn‘t need to read minds in order to speak to another woman. We have a language, especially when danger is near.”
“I shall not blame an entire race of beings for the crimes of a few.”
Revelation story time
This second of the trilogy is coming out heavy right away. I love it. Now that the world has been built up, the story can begin to go in its direction. The first one had me confused through the two POV, being so far apart time wise, but now I know better. So it‘s easier to see where each woman is is. And how they are each growing into their form of queen. I‘m still routing for Rielle to get past the warrior angels words in her mind
Today's #bookmail.
It's the 2nd in the Empirium series. I enjoyed the 1st book.
A little late, but here are my #Top6reads of the year so far 🙃
1) Kingsbane- Claire Legrand
2) Rebecca- Daphne Du Maurier
3) The Dutch House- Ann Patchett
4) Furyborn- Claire Legrand
5) Normal People- Sally Rooney
6) My Dark Vanessa- Kate Elizabeth Russell
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I started to read this as a physical book, but struggled a bit with the writing and moved to the audiobook. I loved the world building, the traveling, the lies and secrets, as well as the magic system. This was well done and a great sequel. This takes place after Furyborn and we follow our two queens who are separated by a thousand of years.

New month, new readathons. We (myself and my two sons) all successfully finished our OWLs for #magicalreadathon2020 🦉📚⚡ Now we're getting our TBRs in order for the May readathons we're doing. This is my *almost* complete TBR for the #medievalathon 👸🤴 I'll also be reading Aurora Burning which will be released this month. This TBR also includes the books we'll be reading for the #believeathon
Are you doing any readathons this month? Which ones?
YEESSSs! 🙌🏽♥️🎉 This book made the first one super worth it and far surpassed it!It was really action packed! With lots more layers of the characters personalities revealed. Lots of steamy scenes too! 🔥 and a lot more world building + explanation of the magic systems/houses. This is one of my fave books of the year so far!♥️ She knocked it out of the park with this one. I literally cannot WAIT until the next book!😃🙌🏽

I was all sorts of wrapped up in this second book of the series, but I didn‘t like it as much as the first. The world building, time travel elements and writing are great, but one character went quickly from being a favorite to annoying the hell out of me.🤨
I will also say that cliffhanger-wtf-endings make me want to scream. How rude! But of course I will be getting the last book when it comes out.😂
Spoilery-ranting in comments.

Sitting in the airport, waiting to board in about an hour. ✈ I'm anxious, but I have some books to keep me company, so I'm okay. No matter where you are, as long as you have a book with you, you're not alone. 💕📚

A not spoilery selection of the texts I sent @rachelsbrittain last night about this book. I need everyone to read this so I can discuss everything.
1. Master and Apprentice, Fellowship: the Literary Lives of the Inklings, and Love in the Time of Cholera
2. Oh No! Ross and Carrie
3. Kingsbane with @sebrittain

5/5
What the heck was this book? I'm left with way more questions than answers, and was emotionally wrecked by the end of the book. I also have a lot of spoilery thoughts about how time travel works in this universe.
It's great, it stressed me out a lot, and I don't know how I'm going to wait another year for the sequel!
So Hannah was 1000% right when she told me I needed to read Furyborn and Kingsbane. I didn‘t love the idea of angels and gave up on it when I‘d started Furyborn before, but once I got deeper into the story I was hooked! When is the third one coming out???
1. Kingsbane and The Wise Man's Fear
2. Red, White, and Royal Blue
3. Going to a wedding

Y'all. This book. If you enjoyed Furyborn, get ready for an even wilder ride. We're back with Rielle and Eliana, fighting the angels & the Empire, watching the alliances & relationships we thought we knew become even more complicated. An absolutely explosive (& totally unexpected ending) that left me dying to read the next book-- how am I supposed to wait?? Plus one of the best / most realistic uses of time travel I think I've ever seen in a book.
1. Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski and The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
2. Kingsbane
3. Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray

I think someone at my library missed a detail because Kingsbane doesn't come out until May 21, but I'm first on the request list and not about to argue with it! 😬 Sorry, books I was reading, but my re-read of Furyborn is supplanting you; I know I need it to fully appreciate Kingsbane.
We've got the cover and an excerpt!
