My fave poem re: the loss of innocence (which is a perfect autumn theme, IMHO). 🍁

TheLudicReader Love Gerard Manley Hopkins. I always use him as an example of a poet I love even though I don‘t know what he‘s talking about half the time. 2y
TheSpineView This is a great poem. Short but love the rhythm of the verse. Great choice 2y
dabbe @TheLudicReader Again, another thing we have in common. The kids would be stunned when they'd inevitably ask me what a certain phrase in a poem meant and I'd answer, “I have no idea, but doesn't it just sound great?“

What a gift to give your students: a love of poetry just for the sake of loving poetry. ❣️

I like Hopkin‘s poetry! #stars #poetrymatters @LazyDays

GingerAntics The ending took an interesting turn. I like the imagery, though. 6y
Lcsmcat @GingerAntics One theory is that this sonnet was inspired by his missing the eclipse in 1877 because it wasn‘t publicized. Here‘s a link to an interesting exploration of the poem, and the “problematic” last few lines. https://interestingliterature.com/2016/09/01/a-short-analysis-of-hopkinss-the-st... 6y
GingerAntics Wow, I did not get any of that when I read it. That was really helpful. 6y
merelybookish His language is amazing, just jam-packed! 6y
