Interesting idea but didn‘t really get into it. Also, it was pretty messed up what the MCs father did and threatened to do throughout the book. Probably not picking up the second book.

#2”The compound” is a book about Eli Yanakakis, he has been living in an underground compound for 6 years, built by is father, who thinks there will be a nuclear attack. But unfortunately his Eli‘s twin brother and grandma didn‘t make it in. I think that this book is ok, hard to get in to for me. If you like books that are suspenseful you might like it.

Cfischbuch Thanks for your honest review. 5y
MissYaremcio Good work Kian! I am curious as to why Eli's twin brother and grandma didn't make it in! 5y

Didn‘t expect much, was blown away how fast it got into the book but about 50 pages in their wasn‘t a lot of action and I just wanted to put down the book but I kept going. Near the end it picked up. Theres also a second book finishing the story called Fallout.

The book had a slow start but exploded closer to the end. It was a thrill ride of emotions it's the first book I felt hate towards one of the character's.

Eli and his family are living in a compound prepared for them by the patriarch of household. After escaping what they are told was a nuclear blast they live in an underground compound for 6 years. I just really like survival/apocalypse scenarios.

Hm... This book is alright, I suppose. I don't necessarily hate it. In fact, I found this book to be rather compelling and interesting on my part. However, I felt as if as the story progressed, I lost my grip on the plot twists and the story spiraled out of control. If you really like suspense and watching people cling onto the will to live, this is the book for you. I would say there are other books that are more deserving for the plot structure.

Two girls are at a movie. One girl is at a birthday party. There's not enough time to go home before I need to pick them up. Thank goodness I have this month's book club selection to keep me occupied.

Read this book when my son picked it for summer reading back in 2013. Loved the premise, but the third act just spirals into a level of absurdity that I find beyond improbable. That said, my son who was a rising 7th grader at the time enjoyed the book a lot.

I thought that this book was very suspenseful and there was always a twist. I liked this book because in the end, you will want to read the next one. I also liked how the author made the main character be so distant in the beginning so that he learned more than one life lesson.

RoysReads What a detailed review! Keep up the great work! 8y

I was in love with the idea of this book and followed all of the twists and turns until it was about 30 pages until the end and something snapped. I feel that I could have made a better ending to this book.

NaomiroseMauro Agreed I don't really like the end and I don't plan on reading the second one 8y
Jellenberger The whole book had me completely captivated and believing every word about the end of the world and I was so excited for him to break out and see the devastated and disgusting after world. So disappointing 8y
BillBlume The entire last third of the book just lost all credibility for me. The premise for how the father intended for the main character to solve a puzzle for getting out that hinges on so many coincidences being connected by someone...makes no sense, and saying "Well, the father was crazy" doesn't excuse that. 8y
