The Haunting of Rookward House
The Haunting of Rookward House | Darcy Coates
11 posts | 10 read | 15 to read
"When Guy finds the deeds to a house in his mother's attic, it seems like an incredible stroke of luck. Sure, the building hasn't been inhabited in forty years and vines strangle the age-stained walls, but Guy is convinced he can clean it up and sell it. He'd be crazy to turn down free money. Right? The house is hours from any other habitation, and Guy can't get phone reception in the old building. He decides to camp there while he does repairs. Surely nothing too bad can happen in the space of a week. But there's a reason no one lives in Rookward House, and the dilapidated rooms aren't as empty as they seem... A deranged woman tormented a family in Rookward forty years before. Now her ghost clings to the building like rot. She's bitter, obsessive, and jealous... and once Guy has moved into her house, she has no intention of ever letting him leave"--

The ghost in this story was seriously cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs in life and in death. When are people going to learn not to buy haunted old houses and try to fix them up? They‘re always miles from any town and have no cell reception. I guess that‘s why they make such good stories.

From bestselling gothic horror author Darcy Coates comes a terrifying story of cruelty, despair, and long-forgotten secrets. There's someone in Rookward House, and she's always watching...

Deliciously creepy!!! I love Coates & she's always got a great ghost story up her sleeve. This was no different. Guy has a checkered past & is looking to start over when he discovers his mom has inherited a home. He just didn't know what secrets that home was harboring. 👀👻

Finished these two. Both good. I‘m really enjoying the After the Rift series.

I wasn't fond of Guy (the main character) at first, but he grew on me as I got to know him better. This book has lots of twists and creepiness. The further I got into it, the harder it was to put it down. It did get a little redundant for a bit, but the creepiness made up for it.

I enjoy books by Darcy Coates. This is my first post and I wanted to add a few books I‘ve read. I will get better at adding details with more recent books. I‘m still trying to figure Litsy out. 😉

MadDustKitties I just started reading Darcy Coates stuff. I love it! 5y

As a kid I was terrified of this happening whenever it was dark outside so I always either had windows covered or refused to look up near them.

Another creepy haunted house book. Not my favorite of the ones I have read by her so far but still fun and spooky. Isolation, slamming doors and creaking floorboards can make for the eerie setting as Guy tries to remodel the abandoned home to sell it for a profit. Of course, he gets a lot more than he bargained for as he camps out in the abandoned home. It alternates between flashbacks to what happened in the House 50 years ago and the present.

Not as amazing as the Carrow Haunt but still a fun and creepy ghost story. I wasn't as big of a fan of the protagonist but the story made up for it in many other ways. Just bought another by Darcy Coates and am ready to devour it!
