'A scouting party that doesn't return tells an officer where their enemy is just as surely as one that comes back with a complete report.'
'Is that some kind of terrible proverb?'
'I learned a great many terrible proverbs during the wars.'

I could sleep pretty much anywhere---the trick was just letting your body remind you how worn it was, and ignoring everything else.
We never expect our lives to change. But then they do.
That's the problem with teenagers: they already *think* they're the center of the universe. When they find out they might actually *be* incredibly important, they can react in unpredictable ways.
This was the problem with shepherding children; they were all will and movement.
There‘s lots to recommend this book. The relationships were fascinating and well crafted. There were touches that made sense and were also far enough outside of my experience as to feel alien, like Jane calling everyone she didn‘t know the gender of “she”. The dialogue was good. The pulse, the over arching threat in the universe, made no sense. Maybe it‘s explored more in a later book?
Too bad the all women space walk didn‘t have these suits!!
Really enjoyed this book and looking forward to the next in the series.
This one ended up feeling uneven to me. I liked the beginning, a lot. I enjoyed seeing the characters come together, but their meeting never quite payed off, emotionally speaking. Instead, a good 3/4 of the book is action sequences in which literally faceless foes are mowed down, with some witty one liners thrown in. This wore quite thin after a while. A blockbuster in book form, the humanity needs to shine through more for me to really care.
We‘re enjoying this sci-fi novel with flavors of Firefly, The Expanse and The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. #catsoflitsy
This book was a lot of fun. It has nonstop action and really good characterization. It made me laugh a bunch and kept my interest throughout. I‘m very excited for the sequel, which is due in May.
My current #library stack - I don‘t have a problem, I swear.
I started the tagged earlier today and picked up Lethal White at the library this afternoon. I want to pretend that I have no responsibilities for the next few days and read read read!!
I didn‘t get to as many books as I wanted to in July, especially the books on my TBR with large page counts that I wanted to get to.
Totals:
2 books
3 graphic novels
1 audiobook
Wow! This was spectacular! I won this ARC through Goodreads a month ago and it was such a fun read! What I really enjoyed is that a majority of the main cast is female, which is so important in an often male-dominated genre. This book also features edge of your seat space and terrain battles (the battle with the Reints....so, so good), great world building, and intelligent and witty AI. I loved that each of the ships had their own personality!
Apparently I won an ARC through Goodreads that I don‘t remember entering for! I‘ve been in the mood for SciFi so I can read this next!
