Marked in Flesh: A Novel of the Others
Marked in Flesh: A Novel of the Others | Anne Bishop
"Fourth in the flawless (The Reading Cafe) "New York Times "bestsellingseries from theauthor of "Vision in Silver. For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they re willing to tolerate both within themselves and within their community... Since the Others allied themselves with the "cassandra sangue," the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial both personally and practically. But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs..."

Book 4 in the series. The conflicts between the Others and the HFL continue and decisions will be taken by both sides. The outcome? you need to read it. Meg will learn another way to reveal her prophesies. Are we seeing some romance coming soon? Book was for me a little slow, first 230 pages were discussing strategies. I appreciate that the author is always giving a summary of previous books in a well integrated manner. 3.8⭐️

Gissy I read 232 pages of this book during #AnyWayyoureadathon @kimmypete1 @Eggbeater @MidnightBookGirl

Great book! This is the 4th book in The Others series and I have enjoyed them all. Some major changes to the world come at the end of this one. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the next one to see how communities will continue after everything that has happened.

Lollymya What‘s this series about??? 5y
tracey38 @Lollymya it's kinda hard to describe. I'll leave a link to the series from Goodreads that might explain it better: https://www.goodreads.com/series/99557-the-others It's an UF series. Meg can see the future when her skin is cut and she bleeds. She becomes a part of a community of shapeshifters. There are these communities all over the world and they basically control the land and humans just "rent" it. Some humans who resent this. Chaos ensues. 5y

Tensions came to a head in this one. Guess that means the next one will be about the characters dealing with the aftermath. A couple of things did improve, though.

I need to get a new charger because it has to be in a *very specific* place to charge properly, so I can‘t move around like I usually do (I‘m a restless reader). The things we do to keep reading our books...and also the drawback to an ereader 🤣🤣🤣 #booknerdproblems

8little_paws That's usually a problem with the port inside the product, not the charger, did you verify it's the charger? 5y
Owlizabeth @8little_paws yeah, it works fine with other cords, thanks for checking! I just always forget about this one until it‘s an emergency! 5y
rretzler That started happening to me 2 Kindles ago and eventually it stopped charging altogether. I also thought it was the charger, and for a time I had to prop the charger in it just so. Fortunately mine was still under warranty. 5y

I don't know what it is, but the world in these books and the story of this world's inhabitants is absolutely phenomenal!! I feel like this is how I should've felt about Harry Potter. (but I don't) How is there not a fandom built around these books??

hermyknee @Chrissyreadit sent me the first book of this series in a swap! It was a fun book. I‘ve got the second one on my kindle. I am surprised there‘s not more fandom around them. I wonder if it‘s because it isn‘t YA? 5y
QueenJen @hermyknee You may be on to something. Might be the lack of "sexy times" too. 5y

Lots of big events take place in this one. I found myself holding my breath several times! This book brings many of the plots that have been building up in previous books to a head, and brings some new additions to the over arching storyline. I can‘t wait to see what the next book will bring!

iread2much I love these books so much! The audio book versions are good as well 6y
Dietz123 I wasn‘t a fan of “Written in Red.” But perhaps I should give it another try. 6y
the.bookish.valkyrie @iread2much That‘s good to know about the audio books, this is my first read through, but I can tell there will be rereads of this in my future! @Dietz123 definitely worth a second try, the story changes consistently as it progresses. 6y

On to book four in The Others series for my reread binge. I finished books 2 & 3 yesterday. I keep asking myself why I love these books so much and it‘s an unknown because I agree with the GR criticisms that the books move slow and are weirdly over detailed and in this reread I‘ve noticed more of the problems with the writing. But it doesn‘t seem to dampen my love for the characters and their stories. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The heart wants what the heart wants.

daena Totally grabbed the first book from all the Litsy love its getting. So thank you for that 🖤 7y
MarriedtoMrT I loved the first one, liked the second one, lost steam on the third. But I did really love the characters and want to know what happens. Maybe I‘ll try again on audio. 7y

This was another great read. I'm so in love with this series. I will say I'm in the minority in that I'm not shipping Meg and Simon. I am also finding that Meg is starting to grate on my nerves with her dramatic reactions. She doesn't seem like the same person she was in the first book. The story is still top notch though so it's a minor quibble.

Leniverse Oh, what's this?! An Anne Bishop series I haven't read? 😮 7y
NadiaBatista @Leniverse :) it's a series called The Others, and the first volume, Written in Red, is from 2013, I believe. It's absolutely genious! Everything this woman writes is pure perfection 7y
Leniverse Heh. I don't know. The later books in The Black Jewels series were not up to par, and I didn't quite get on with Sebastian (although I might give the Ephemera series another try as it might have just been my mood at the time). But I will definitely check out The Others. 😁 7y
NadiaBatista I finished my journey with Black Jewels this past week... but I really love everything that the woman writes. As for Ephemera... for me, it's her masterpiece. One of the best universes I have ever read, but I'm totally a fangirl og 7y

Love this series. The paranormal in this novel are sentient and a distinctly non-human. It is not your typical alpha hero who gets furry once a month.

**This book was reviewed for the San Francisco Book Review**

Meg continues to be a frail, yet strong young woman, who is a beloved confusion for the Lakeside Courtyard. As always, this series had solid writing. I'm so invested in this book family and now I must wait for the next one!!! Many threads were tied off in this novel, and I'm eager to see where the next book will go.

This is a great book to read when you feel that people are really stupid and you can't understand why. The Others agree with you, but in this world, humanity's poor choices cause the more powerful beings to act and hope, once again, that humans will learn. An excellent read, very fast paced yet continues to develop the world and the characters.

Loved this so much. The characters keep developing well, and the tension keeps building and we finally see retribution from The Elders. It's not pretty. It's also tragic and sad. But the growing awareness of attraction between Meg and Simon is lovely to watch. Sigh.

This series is so good. I'm enjoying the bigger picture of the world than just what happens to Meg. I also like that she isn't our usual UF heroine. She's not a fighter in the usual way, but she's definitely not weak either.
