Peeps | Scott Westerfeld

A year ago, Cal Thompson was a college freshman more interested in meeting girls and partying than in attending biology class. Now, after a fateful encounter with a mysterious woman named Morgan, biology has become, literally, Cal's life. Cal was infected by a parasite that has a truly horrifying effect on its host. Cal himself is a carrier, unchanged by the parasite, but he's infected the girlfriends he's had since Morgan. All three have turned into the ravening ghouls Cal calls Peeps. The rest of us know them as vampires. It's Cal's job to hunt them down before they can create more of their kind. . . . Bursting with the sharp intelligence and sly humor that are fast becoming his trademark, Scott Westerfeld's novel is an utterly original take on an archetype of horror.

New month, new book!
I'm not really into it for now... 🤷‍♀️ I'll keep going and see, I guess!

Bonus: I hate the cover 😔 I really don't like dolls (I'm pediophobic, so...)

#two4tuesday @Texreader @TheSpineView

1. I'm more of a fantasy girl, even though now I'm focused on general fiction than anything.

2. Out of the two, I've read more about vampies than werewolves so I would say vampires. My favorite is the Peeps series by Scott Westerfeld, its a different take on vampires.

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 😊🤩🧛‍♀️❣ 4y

A very different type of book about vampires. One of my favorite aspects of this book is interwoven between chapters of a story is a comedic, light education of various parasites.

I wish there was a choice between "pick" and "so so".

phantomx I remember reading this book years ago! This one got me into reading Scott Westerfeld 4y
freeatlast1137 @phantomx this is definitely one of his best. I started with the Uglies series but Peeps is what made me want to buy and read all of his books. 😅 4y

In this take on a vampire story, “peeps” are “parasite-positive” people. The parasite in question leads to vampire-like behavior. Exempt in carriers, who retain their sanity and have mostly good effects. But something new is afoot which our hero Cal is starting to discover. I thoroughly enjoyed this. It‘s completely entertaining. I‘ll for sure be looking for the next book.

(Just ignore the terrible cover, which doesn‘t work for me at all.)

8little_paws The cover is perfect for a 1997 WB teen drama 5y
Hooked_on_books @8little_paws Yeah, you nailed it. And it doesn‘t fit the book content at all. 5y

MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE TEEN VAMPIRE NOVEL IN ALL OF EXISTENCE - first of all. Secondly, stylistically it‘s completely dope the way Westerfeld combines story and research, fantasy and fact, fiction and essay. Thirdly, parasites. I like learning about parasites.

Zombies and parasites. This book made me feel a certain way and I knew, I just knew, zombies were kinda my thing.

When it's the last day before spring break in kindergarten...Peep Science!!!! The lady at the grocery store gave me a look 😂 #teachersoflitsy

TheWordJar Peep science is the best! Last year we put one each in water, milk, orange juice, and soda to see what would happen. Disgusting results all around! 😂 8y
Lauren_reading @TheWordJar We're waiting on those results! We also microwaved one! 8y
