If I Die Tonight
If I Die Tonight: A Novel | Alison Gaylin
Reminiscent of the bestsellers of Laura Lippman and Harlan Cobenwith a dose of Big Little Lies or Stranger Thingsan absorbing, addictive tale of psychological suspense from the author of the highly acclaimed and Edgar Award-nominated What Remains of Me and the USA Today bestselling and Shamus Award-winning Brenna Spector series, in which a seemingly open-and-shut police case with a clear-cut hero and villain turns out to be anything but simple. Late one night in the quiet Hudson Valley town of Havenkill, a distraught woman stumbles into the police stationand lives are changed forever. Aimee En, once a darling of the 80s pop music scene, claims that a teenage boy stole her car, then ran over another young man who'd rushed to help. As Liam Millers life hangs in the balance, the events of that fateful night begin to come into focus. But is everything as it seems? The case quickly consumes social media, transforming Liam, a local high school football star, into a folk hero, and the suspect, a high school outcast named Wade Reed, into a depraved would-be killer. But is Wade really guilty? And if he isn't, why won't he talk? Told from a kaleidoscope of viewpointsWade's mother Jackie, his younger brother Connor, Aimee En and Pearl Maze, a young police officer with a tragic past, If I Die Tonight is a story of family ties and dark secretsand the lengths we'll go to protect ourselves.

My paint by number is slowly coming along, and I should be able to finish in during my next session. I finished off the tagged audiobook, and felt a little let down by it. Maybe I read too many thrillers/suspense because I guessed both of the main “twists” WAY early on. I kept thinking they‘d have to throw something else in there to surprise me, but no. I did enjoy it, but they could be more thanks to the narrator than the writing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think I have a bit of a book hangover after this one (tried two audios after this that just weren‘t working.) I figured out the twists pretty early, but the build toward the conclusion is so tense that it didn‘t matter. So good.

I messed up and thought (wished) that that Elton bio was an audiobook so I needed to find something else. Really enjoying this one so far!

MoonWitch94 Such a great book! One of the best I read this year. 5y

Life has been hectic, and even though this book is good, I haven't had much time to read, but 🤞I have time to finish it tonight #booksandbooze

It's a fine afternoon to start a new mystery and drink sparkling rose (and lots and lots of water because it's also 90 degrees outside) #booksandbooze

A little slow at times, probably could have been a little bit shorter, but overall really solid! Bonus points for being completely blindsided by one of the twists 👏🏽

SomedayAlmost I am enjoying the audiobook 6y

I've been plugging away at this book and though I've seen mixed reviews I'm enjoying it! I also had a concert tonight near Times Square, hence the obligatory touristy pic 😄

An hour into this intriguing, award-winning suspense novel. Great voice and nuggets about family in the digital age. Trigger warning: opening includes a young person‘s fictional online suicide note. #intrigued #enjoying #audibook

This novel was PHENOMENAL! The best book I have read in the last year. Twists & turns around every page, eloquently established characters, and really makes you think about the destructive lengths humans can go to protect secrets. Social Media is so toxic, especially for teens, and this book shines a bright light as to how much damage a single post can cause to people of any age. If you haven‘t read this one, you‘re missing out!

THIS BOOK 📖 IS SOOOOOOO GOOD. I‘m halfway through and still have no clue who or what the real story/bad guy really is. (Which is a rare treat for me). If you haven‘t read this one...you should add it to your list.

yeahnonotagain Added to my list! Thanks for sharing!! 6y

The twists were good, I just wasn‘t feeling it most of the way through. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Couldn't get into. Didn't even make it to 100 pages. Just wasn't doing anything for me. I kept struggling with it, so I decided to bail.

Jazruiz.2014 Just interested to know: What was it that was the struggle? 7y
MonicaLoves2Read I don't have kids and it dealt with a teenager. His mom having trouble understanding him. The mom kept asking questions to the reader, such as do you understand where I am coming from, and am I the only mom that feels this way. Since, I was unable to have children, I just couldn't relate. I am sure other people will probably be able too. 7y
