I love books set in Asia - it‘s a way of life so different to my own, and the interlinking stories in this are so beautifully told. Not always comfortable to read either. A wonderful book.

These interconnected stories were an interesting look at different sorts of lives in India. Some really drew me in, while others were a bit of a struggle. But overall I felt it was well written and cool.
I gave up in the middle of the third part. It‘s due back to the library this week, but I couldn‘t bring myself to finish it.
Happy New Year! 🎆🎊
I hope 2018 got off to a great start for everyone. I spent today reflecting on 2017 and setting personal growth goals for the coming year. I also did a lot of relaxing and reading, including starting this great book. It‘s finally out in the US this week after it was shortlisted for last year‘s Man Booker!
Glorious #BookMail 🤗🤓🙌🏻
This is my first order from Book Depository and I must say the best part (aside from the deals of course) is having access to some books, like this gorgeous edition of A State of Freedom, which isn't released in the US until 2018!
Hopefully I won't come to abuse it.... 😜
Woke up to this email today—\u000my second Goodreads win this year!!!!????
No one writes openings as powerful as Mukherjee does in his novels. This book has a captivating story about a man writing a cookbook, a performing bear & a scholarly maid that meaningfully asks what choices we have in determining our personal freedom in life.
This one tricked me! I was ready to bail not far in and wondering where all the praise for Mukherjee came from, the prose seemed laboured, an awkward construction here, an oddly chosen word there. But I persevered to the second part and realised it was all deliberate. Each section is a loosely related story that runs the gamut of Indian society, from a nameless man returning as a tourist, an emigrated son visiting home, a housemaid and more 👇
