The Pyramid of Mud
The Pyramid of Mud | Andrea Camilleri
4 posts | 4 read | 3 to read
The latest in the New York Times bestselling series has Italy's favorite detective uncovering corruption and mafia ties in the world of construction and public spending On a gloomy morning in Vigta, a call from Fazio rouses Inspector Montalbano from a nightmare. A man called Giugi Nicotra has been found dead in the skeletal workings of a construction site, a place now entombed by a sea of mud from recent days of rain and floods. Shot in the back, he had fled into a water supply system tunnel. The investigation gets off to a slow start, but all the evidence points to the world of construction and public contracts, a world just as slimy and impenetrable as mud. As he wades through a world in which construction firms and public officials thrive, Montalbano is obsessed by one thought: that by going to die in the tunnel, Nicotra had been trying to communicate something. The novels of Andrea Camilleri breathe out the sense of place, the sense of humor, and the sense of despair that fills the air of Sicily. Donna Leon

Book 22 of the series. Livia is finally coming out of her deep sadness, and so Montalbano can concentrate on a murder, and it looks like the mafia families are involved.

Another case of corruption and double crossing mobsters solved by Inspector Montalbano in his own unique way. Thoroughly enjoyable. It's so sad there won't be many more.

gradcat Oh, I love Montalbano! It is so sad...♥️ (edited) 5y

CarolynM You're ahead of me now! This is the next one for me🙂 6y
Freespirit Do I need to read these in order @Andrew65 @CarolynM ?? I have The Voice of the Violin ready to go😍 6y
CarolynM @Freespirit I don't think you do, but I would recommend reading a few from the first ten before trying the later ones. The later ones rely on readers already knowing the characters and their habits. 6y
