Me, Frida, and the Secret of the Peacock Ring
Me, Frida, and the Secret of the Peacock Ring | Angela Cervantes
7 posts | 4 read | 9 to read
A room locked for fifty years. A valuable peacock ring. A mysterious brother-sister duo. Paloma Marquez is traveling to Mexico City, birthplace of her deceased father, for the very first time. She's hoping that spending time in Mexico will help her unlock memories of the too-brief time they spent together. While in Mexico, Paloma meets Lizzie and Gael, who present her with an irresistible challenge: The siblings want her to help them find a valuable ring that once belonged to beloved Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Finding the ring means a big reward -- and the thanks of all Mexico. What better way to honor her father than returning a priceless piece of jewelry that once belonged to his favorite artist! But the brother and sister have a secret. Do they really want to return the ring, or are they after something else entirely?

Saw this gorgeous cover as I was working on reorganizing the middle grade shelves at work. When a young girl travels to Mexico, she meets siblings who ask for her help in solving a mystery. Sounds fantastic! And so my TBR pile grows a little bigger...

Paloma is in Mexico with her mother for the summer and befriends siblings Gael and Lizzie who are keeping one too many secrets. Together the three friends must solve a mystery to save an innocent man framed for a theft he didn't commit!
An excellent middle grade novel surrounding the mystery of a missing ring that belonged to legendary artist Frida Kahlo.

Paloma and her mother are visiting Mexico City for the summer, and nearby is the home (now museum) of Frida Kahlo. When an important piece of art goes missing, Paloma finds herself drawn into a mystery with her new friends.

This fun middle grade mystery is light and entertaining. It‘s wrapped up a bit too neatly in the end, but I can be okay with that.

When Paloma's mother drags her to her late father's birthplace of Mexico City for the summer, Paloma is not exactly thrilled. That is, until her new friends and Spanish tutors turn her onto a mystery involving Frida Kahlo, and she gets to put all of her knowledge from her favorite mystery novels to good use.

As Paloma does her best to crack the case, she learns more about Spanish, Mexico, and of course, Frida Kahlo, in this short, fun MG mystery.
