This one was sad and depressing (I knew it would be) but I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the evolution of the main character over the course of the book (there's hope for me yet!) and admire the author for not wrapping up the last little bit the way you'd expect her to.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat because of how much thought was put into the story line.
"Maybe that was the thing no one really knew how to prepare for, that your life might ultimately depend on how quickly you could switch from seeing the shooter as the person who sat two seats away from you in history-the person who offered you a stick of gum-seeing them as the person who might kill you. " - wow ? was not expecting that from this book about a mysterious relationship between teen twins. Too true though ☹️
I definitely wasn‘t expecting the ending I got with this one! The Window was really good and it provided a lot of closure figuring out what exactly happened to Jess‘s twin sister Anna. It kept you guessing the whole way through to the end.
Strong debut from Brunskill. Jess and Anna are twins and nothing alike but even so, they‘ve always been close. And then Anna dies in a fall from her window. While everyone seems to think it‘s an accident, Jess isn‘t so sure and she sets out to find the truth. As she hunts for the truth & secrets are revealed, Jess soon learns that she didn‘t know her sister as well as she thought she did. Suspenseful YA thriller that makes for a fun read.
My good friend wrote a novel! I got the privilege of attending her book launch party (this is the cake!) and of interviewing her. If you want to check out the interview, here‘s the link: https://chireviewofbooks.com/2018/04/12/the-window-amelia-brunskill-interview/
Last but not least, this is one of the books the booksellers talked about the most at the festival. After her twin falls to her death while climbing out her bedroom window, Jess isn‘t sure what to think. Everyone seems to think it was an accident but Jess isn‘t convinced and decides to investigate.
The tagged book is by an author participating in the YA book festival I‘ve been helping to organize (and I‘m hearing great things about it). Just finished set-up...Hard to believe that tomorrow is THE BIG DAY!!! 24 authors, a day of panels, author signings, giveaways and all sorts of fun. If you are in Chicago and need/want something to do, come check it out. Tickets are free and available at the door. It‘s going to be awesome!!!

Book 39 of 2018 The Window is a suspenseful story about Jess investigating the death of her twin sister after she supposedly dies after falling from her bedroom window. Jess isn't so sure if that's the truth and starts uncovering her sister's secrets as she looks for clues about what really happened. This is a strong YA mystery written in short chapters that make it compulsively readable.

Anna is outgoing and athletic, she is the opposite of quiet introvert Jess. The same on the outside, yet so completely different inside--it's hard to believe the girls are sisters, let alone identical twins. But they are. And they tell each other everything.
Or so Jess thought.
After Anna falls to her death while sneaking out her window, Jess's life begins to unravel. Where was she going? Who was she meeting? And how long had she been lying?
