The third book in the Printz Honoraward winning series, this gothic, gory novel is articulately literary, horrifically grotesque, and mind-bendingly complex (Kirkus Reviews). When Dr. Warthrop goes hunting for the Holy Grail of Monstrumology with his eager new assistant, Arkwright, he leaves Will Henry in Victorian New York. Finally, Will can enjoy something that always seemed out of reach: a normal life with a real family. But part of Will cant let go of Dr. Warthrop, and when Arkwright returns, claiming that the doctor is dead, Will is devastatedand not convinced. Determined to discover the truth, Will travels to London, knowing that if he succeeds, he will be plunging into depths of horror worse than anything he has experienced so far. His journey takes him to Socotra, the Isle of Blood, where human beings are used to make nests and blood rains from the skyand puts Will Henrys loyalty to the ultimate test.

January Reviews

This is the third book in The Monstrumologist series. I love this series and I hope that in 5 or 6 years my nephew is interested in horror so I can gift him these books and the same for my niece in 10 years or so. 🤞🏻
I don‘t think I mentioned it in my review of the second book, but Steven Boyer‘s narration is excellent. #Booked2023 #aboutamonster

Just a tiny bit sad to move on to the last book. #SeriesLove2023

Kind of beginning to slip into madness with the main characters, but definitely worth the read for the follow up on the relationship between the monstrumologist and young Will Henry. And as always, very unique plot lines.

Finished Book 3. Pelinore Wathrop is becoming an all-time fave character. And the narration by Steven Boyer of this series is excellent. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Will Henry has a fantastic voice. He's an unforgettable character, a boy that won a little piece of my heart. He's a little brother I want to hug and protect. In this thinking I find myself in sync with Pellinore Warthrop (who may have a piece of my heart in a different way).

So many different levels of one's self are exposed and explored in this novel that you can't help but feel like something inside of you has shifted when the story is over.

100 pages into this one it's already wholly fascinating. Yancey sure can weave a tale.

I ADORE the Monstrumologist series. In this (the third) book, you see a darker side of Will Henry emerge, much to Dr. Warthrop's dismay. If you haven't read these books yet, Snap to! (That will make sense later) 😉
