This wonderfully heartwarming winter story about forest animals' curiosity and confusion over a snowman that has magically appeared in their woods, has become a festive favourite year after year. When Stranger in the Woods appeared ten years ago it became a #1 New York Times bestseller and won several awards, including the Benjamin Franklin Award and the International Reading Association Award, and has since been published in seven languages. Stranger in the Woods is an amazing photographic fantasy book. Carl R. Sams truly engages readers with a winter themed story. This realistic fiction book has won The Benjamin Franklin Award as well as the International Reading Association Award. This book would be great in the classroom for lessons on story sequencing or winter animals/environments. Would work as a RA because of the amazing visuals.

Laura.S UDL principle 1.3 regarding alternative ways for visual information is represented well in this book because the pictures help the students to become more engaged. This also aligns with EL strategy 42 in that it teaches sequencing and how a story flows. https://thehappyhousewife.com/homeschool/stranger-in-the-woods-lesson-plan (edited) 7y

DrSpalding Wonderful post. Books that can engage the reader while also teaching content, for instance science, are excellent additions to your classroom library. Well done. 7y
