I think I‘ve only read two fiction books where the female protagonist was admitted to an asylum or mental illness home. So I googled to search for a male protagonist and found this book. Sounds good too.
It tells the “psychological breakdown and subsequent institutionalization of an alcoholic salesman.�

Everything Yates wrote is worth reading. Nothing however matches Revolutionary Road, in my opinion.
