Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another, private reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, Laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered. In a spirited clash of wills and customs, Judith reveled in the melting bliss of Iain's searching kisses, his passionate caresses. Perplexed by her sprightly defiance, bemused by her tender nature, Iain felt his soul growing into the light and warmth of her love. Surely nothing would wrench her from the affection and trust of Iain and his clan...not even the truth about her father, a devastating secret that could shatter the boldest alliance, and the most glorious of loves!

One of my #newyearwhodis reads from @hes7 I always enjoy a man in a kilt book. That Garwood has written a very competent heroine and a relationship not based on silly misunderstandings is a bonus for sure. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2021/01/review-secret-by-julie-garwood.html

What a delightful read this was. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the relationship between Judith and Iain bloom... *sigh... I also loved watching their relationships with the secondary characters. Maybe because I‘m an Outlander fan, this story was more appealing... It was a fun and satisfying read.

robinb I need to re-read this! It‘s considered a classic and a favorite among A LOT of historical romance readers. I remember loving it, but it‘s been so long since I read it, I need to refresh my memory. 😊 6y
Loric @robinb I read her books 20 years ago and loved them... I didn‘t recall reading this but really enjoyed and remembered what I loved about her books 6y
robinb @Loric Yes, it‘s been 20+ years for me too. But I remember that I loved her stuff so much that I read everything I could find. 6y

A bit late on this, my apologies!

1. This is tough because I love romantic books. I am going with The Secret because it is my favorite reread.
2. Both, double the chocolate!
3. Don't have a real one, so fictional it is and I have to go with Roger from Rent at the moment. Addicted to the live version that was on few weeks ago, and I fell in love with Brennin Hunt's version on Roger.
4. Happy
5. Travis from The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

First book read for #NewYearWhoDis !! I really enjoyed the character growth and all the warm and happy feelings this book gave me. Thanks @AsYouWish for the recommendation!

Lauren_reading Old Julie Garwood historicals are the best!!!! 6y
orange.books @LaurenReads Yes they are!! I've binge read a couple more after finishing this one and have greatly enjoyed her historical romance! 6y
AsYouWish Yay!!! I am so glad you liked it! I love her books, both the historical romances and her contemporary romances. 6y
orange.books @AsYouWish Awesome! I'm excited to read a contemporary, now that I've read a few of her historical! They've set the bar really high. 6y

Day 3 of #holidaygratitudechallenge I have a few authors that I am grateful for, but Julie Garwood is my queen!!!! She has been there for me when I was happy, when I was sad, when I have felt alone, when I needed an escape and when I needed to go 'home'. She has this way of writing that gives me that warm-safe feeling, and makes me want to go to these places and meet these characters and be a part of her worlds! I could go on and on about her.

Day 4 of #tarottakeover Today for The Fool, I pick The Secret by Julie Garwood. Judith is a brave but foolish character, she is an English woman traveling to Scotland with a group of soldiers sent to bring her to her pregnant friend. She never thought that the Laird would fall for her and want her to stay in Scotland or that maybe she should reveal the secret of her past. What a Fool!

Sace I read a lot of Julie Garwood back in the day. I can't recall if I read this one. 6y
AsYouWish @RestlessFickleBookHoarder This is my favorite of her books, but that might be because it was my first. 6y
Cubanmommy95 I might be revealing my true age but I think I read this many (20!) years ago. If I remember it must have been good right :) 6y

AsYouWish @Cubanmommy95 I just did a reread this past summer and it brought back all the good feelings I had the first time around. I remember finding out that this book was part of a series and rushing to the library to check out the rest. Her writing is just so good!!! 6y
Sace My Julie Garwood days were about 20 years ago too. I read Outlander over 20 years ago too. 😂 6y
Cubanmommy95 @RestlessFickleBookHoarder me too!! I actually started re-reading the series since so many new books have come out. I am currently stuck on book 5 and even if I love Diana Gabaldon, my gosh that book is long. I feel overwhelmed every time I look at it 😂 6y
Sace @Cubanmommy95 part of me wants to go back and reread at least the first three (the only ones I've read) but I'm not sure I have the attention span for it! 6y
AsYouWish @Cubanmommy95 @RestlessFickleBookHoarder I have read the first one and I tried to read the second one, but it was tough for me to focus on because it felt slow moving to me, but I may have to give it a retry because I love the show! 6y

Day 3 of #agameoffavorites This is Julie Garwood, she is my favorite romance author. In my research I found that as a child she could not read, this was not discovered until she was 11. A nun, taught her how to read using dictionaries, short stories, classics, Nancy Drew & the author O. Henry. I love her historical romances, tagged book. I also love her contemporary romances, my favorite so far is Slow Burn.

@ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress

Erinsuereads I have a few of her books on my bookshelf that I need to read! 6y
AsYouWish @ErinSueG After posting this I took a couple of her books off my self and have decided to push my other books aside and have a Julie Garwood weekend! There is just something about her books that truly transports me to a different time and a different place. 6y

Listened to this all day while totally rearranging my bedroom and cleaning in all the nooks and crannies. Absolutely loved these characters and haven't laughed so much in a long time. Romantic, funny, and narrated well! My only beef with the story was that the heroine was in tears every other scene. A bit old school, but she still showed her strength and intelligence! ❤ #romantsy #historicalromance

AileenRR This one is such an old favorite ❤️ 7y
Shaila @AileenRR ❤ I've been meaning to pick up another one of hers. 7y
AileenRR I think The Wedding is a sequel to The Secret. I remember thinking the sequel was cuter and sweeter, but I don‘t think I liked it as much 7y
Shaila @AileenRR Good to know. For whatever reason, I have The Bride stuck in my head...not sure if that's the title, but that's the one I remember friends always raving about 7y
AileenRR Oh! I think you‘re right! The Bride! Who knows, maybe you‘ll like it better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 7y

I read this years ago. Loved the friendship between Francis Catherine and Judith. When Audible had it on sale awhile back, I thought would be fun to revisit. BIG MISTAKE! I've never heard such horrible 😨 Scottish accents.

A completely charming read! Judith is the perfect spunky funny heroine, and Iain is the perfect gruff highlander poleaxed by her from the first. The perfect historical romance. 💗
