8 posts | 33 read | 2 to read
When Kerry McGrath- a smart, relentless prosecutor- takes her daughter to see a plastic surgeon following a car accident, she sees a woman in the surgery with a beautiful, hauntingly familiar face. On a subsequent visit, she sees the same face again- on a different woman. . . Suddenly she remembers: both woman look startlingly like Suzanne Reardon, the "Sweetheart Murder" victim whose husband, Skip, is now serving a life sentence for that murder. When Kerry starts asking questions, she discovers that just about everyone wants the case kept closed. Still she persists- but what she doesn't know is that it is already too late. Her puzzled queries have triggered a response and she is in great, growing danger.

Pickpick

Okay, final review for this morning! It's been a binge!! I picked this one up because I needed a 1995 title for the #19822022 challenge, and this ended up being one of my favorite MHC books I have read yet. Snappy pacing with short chapters kept me going. I really like Kerry a lot and appreciated her struggle with whether or not to keep pursuing the case. The red herrings were spot-on, and I didn't guess the murderer until almost the very end.⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) This will also fill the 1995 slot for #192025 I am so enjoying both these challenges @Librarybelle !! 2y
Librarybelle Hooray! I need to read more of MHC‘s books! 2y
Ruthiella I binged MHC books in the early part of this century. I can‘t read her anymore but I really enjoyed her then. 2y
MemoirsForMe Love MHC! 🙌🏻 I‘m about to dive into her memoir. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @UwannaPublishme - Ooooo that sounds intriguing!! I can't wait to hear how you like it! 2y

Robin was in a car accident and needed plastic surgery for the injuries on her face. This frightened Kerry, Robin‘s mother. Kerry was a prosecutor and one day when she was waiting for Robin at the plastic surgeon‘s office she realized a familiar face. She then started realizing this face on other women and realized this was the same face of the Sweetheart Murder victim. She begins to investigate which puts her and Robin‘s life at risk.

marissawong If you like books that are suspenseful and mysterious you‘ll like this one. The author tells the story alternating first person point of view as she switches between the characters who tell the story. (edited) 5y
MissYaremcio OOOO this sounds good. It sounds like if you combined Botched with NCIS! Great review! 5y

The song “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” was written in 1910, the same year my grandmother was born. That‘s just one of the fun facts I learned at her 100th birthday party. (Doesn‘t she remind you of Queen Elizabeth?)

#GetMovin #AmericasSweetheart

In the 80s & 90s, I was very into Mary Higgins Clark books. It amazes me that she turned 90 this past December. She's published over 50 books, her most recent last month, and her mystery & suspense titles have stayed in print since "Where Are the Children" first released in 1975. I think that qualifies her as one of America's sweethearts and one of America's biggest and most enduring mystery authors.

TheBookgeekFrau I remember my mother reading Where Are the Children? when it first came out because, the cover scared the crap out of me lol 7y
mrp27 I was lucky to meet her in 2003 at a book festival. Meeting her prompted me to finally take the plunge and read some of her books. I enjoy her Christmas mysteries the most. 7y
