The Start of Me and You
The Start of Me and You | Emery Lord
42 posts | 60 read | 48 to read
Brimming with heartfelt relationships and authentic high-school dynamics The Start of Me and You proves that it's never too late for second chances. It's been a year since it happened-when Paige Hancock's first boyfriend died in an accident. After shutting out the world for two years, Paige is finally ready for a second chance at high school. . .and she has a plan. First: Get her old crush, Ryan Chase, to date her-the perfect way to convince everyone she's back to normal. Next: Join a club-simple, it's high school after all. But when Ryan's sweet, nerdy cousin, Max, moves to town and recruits Paige for the Quiz Bowl team (of all things!) her perfect plan is thrown for a serious loop. Will Paige be able to face her fears and finally open herself up to the life she was meant to live?

These covers are beautiful, I love white books that have a pop of colour! I really enjoyed The Start of Me and You and can't wait to hopefully read The Map from Here to There this year 😊

When I picked up this book (it was on sale), I didn't know how much I would love it. Although it is written for ya, I feel like anyone struggling with grief or trauma should definitely give this one a chance; it's a hidden gem. Emery's writing about love, loss and the things that haunt us was so therapeutic. I would put it as one of the most beautiful books I've read for young adults. Emery reminds us that healing happens slowly.

The 2 current books I'm working on. Feeling like you're in a reading slump is such a difficult thing to get out of and even believe that you'll get out of it. I think reading slumps are a natural part of being a reader. What books have helped in getting you out of those nasty, discouraging reading slumps?

A slower read, but a wonderful story of dealing with grief and finding yourself. #20in4

Really enjoyed this was a cute story. That ending though 🤔 The back and forth between Paige and Max was really annoying.

I've been binging on YA contemporary romance books but they are just so cute and make me smile. I am very happy I discovered Emery Lord because she writes stories with well-fleshed out, likable characters and she is FUNNY. She also handles more difficult subjects like grief and divorce so you feel all the emotions when reading. Adorable, nerdy and will definitely make you smile! #yacontemporary #youngadult

One of the few books I‘ve ever screamed at. But in a good way.

For readers new to the YA romance scene, it gives you the cliches. For experienced readers, it gives you the twists and the pain to deepen it all. But Emery Lord knows how to give the readers what they want and serve it in a fresh way.

I used to think rewatching and rereading were embarrassingly boring pastimes. But there‘s something to be said for how comforting it is to already know what happens. There is no such luxury in real life.

He chewed on his thumbnail, as if racking his brain for a solution to this equation. But life is not evens and odds and solving for x. And sadness? Sadness is an equation made of all variables.

Favourite quote from this book: "You've had your cry, but now you'll pick yourself up and keep living your life. Doubly, for that sweet boy. Love extra, even if it means you hurt extra, too. That's how we honour them."

Although simple and a little cliched I loved all the characters, the plot and the pacing of this book. Grief is something we all face and this book did a great job of showing how grief is not something simply conquered.Paige is a complex lovable protagonist, battling with her grief as well as life as a teenager, young love, family and friends. Lord did a great job writing the complexities of being a young adult, this was more than a love story.

5/5🌟
A lovely story that explores how to navigate high-school again with the weight of grief on one‘s shoulders. The two potential love interests are sweet and the female friendship depicted here is excellent!! Can‘t wait to read book 2 set to come out in 2019! #emerylord #yabooks #youngadult #yalit #summerreading
