Excited to start a new nonfiction that the wonderful @Addison_Reads gifted me with tonight! Thank you again Cassie - my hippo 🦛 bookmark will surely enjoy lumbering through the pages with his chunky self 😄

My neighbors must be getting used to hearing squeals of happiness, hand clapping, and laughter coming from my apartment when I get Litsy mail but this would be the first time they heard me shriek, “There‘s a hippo in my book!!!!” Thank you @Addison_Reads for making my week ❤️💌📚🦛. I can‘t wait to read this book and I‘m loving my hippopotamus 🤗

If you enjoy medical nonfiction, you'll love this book! 💚 Gawande writes in such an honest voice that you almost feel like you're talking to a friend. This book covers a wide range of medical topics and reminds us that doctors are only human, mistakes do happen and they have to live with that.

Have you ever done this? I just went to add this to my goodreads account, and guess what....I've already read this 🤨🤨 (and I ordered this from Amazon) Crap!!! And yes I gave it 5 ⭐ it was very good!! Too bad I cant remember the books I read

Completed for the “something with law or medicine” category of #nonfiction2019 challenge. Gawande, a surgeon, is a wonderfully fluid and lyrical writer. Here he writes about big issues such as fallibility and uncertainty in a way that lets you remember that doctors are human, too. Recommended.

Even though I brought my tablet (which has more than 500 e-books in it) AND a 720-page paperback with me on my trip, I still stopped at a used bookstore in Tempe and bought two more. That I now have to fit into my carry-on bag. I do this every. Single. Time. 😬

So true yet so terrifying to admit

Wow! I'm a bit all over the place this month, but i picked this up on a whim in the nonfiction section at the library and barely have been able to put it down! The writing style is personal and the stories are eye opening, highly recommended and already a pick even though i haven't finished it!

Really enjoyed this humble and realistic view at medicine and the impossible standards we hold our medical professionals to. It will make me rethink how I select my doctors and the concept of malpractice and malpractice lawsuits

Have spent 4 hours driving today but it's all good because it was for a fun cause (judging my state's National History Day contest) and because I had this audiobook to keep me company 😎

A fascinating, if gruesome, look at life as a surgical resident. Excellent details and food for thought, including the paradox of wanting the best possible care for ourselves but at the same time needing to train future doctors, who have less experience.

Page 24 of a thought-provoking read that is also making me queasy on the bus when he describes surgical procedures in detail. Very good stuff though.

The core predicament of medicine-the thing that makes being a patient so wrenching, being a doctor so difficult,and being a part of society that pays the bills they run up so vexing-is uncertainty.With all we know about people,diseases and how to diagnose and treat them,it can be hard...to grasp how deeply uncertainty runs.As a doctor, you come to find that the struggle in caring for people is more often with what you do not know than what you do.

I idolize Atul Gawande for his brilliant book "Being Mortal". Diving head first into this treat tonight ???
