The Glass Forest
The Glass Forest: A Novel | Cynthia Swanson
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Bookseller comes a gripping literary suspense novel set in the 1960s about a deeply troubled family and three women who will reveal its dark truths. In the autumn of 1960, Angie Glass is living an idyllic life in her Wisconsin hometown. At twenty-one, shes married to charming, handsome Paul, and has just given birth to a baby boy. But one phone call changes her life forever. When Pauls niece, Ruby, reports that her father, Henry, has committed suicide, and that her mother, Silja, is missing, Angie and Paul drop everything and fly to the small upstate town of Stonekill, New York to be by Rubys side. Angie thinks theyre coming to the rescue of Pauls grief-stricken young niece, but Ruby is a composed and enigmatic seventeen-year-old who resists Angies attempts to nurture her. As Angie learns more about the complicated Glass family, staying in Henry and Siljas eerie and ultra-modern house on the edge of the woods, she begins to question the very fabric of her own marriage. Through Siljas flashbacks, Angies discovery of astonishing truths, and Rubys strategic dissection of her parents state of affairs, a story of love, secrets, and ultimate betrayal is revealed.

Told in flashbacks, this is a story of love, secrets, and ultimate betrayal. This is a slow-moving story that held my attention to the very end. 4y
EadieB Packed with suspense from the 40's and 60's with lots of cultural and atmospheric details. Great characters and excellent plot. I will definitely seek out her other book, The Bookseller. 4y

Mehso-so

Atmosphere & setting of this book were strong, & it did keep my attention well enough, but overall this didn‘t quite work the way I imagine the author wanted. It‘s very slow but not in the intentional way some thrillers are, & clear from the get go that certain characters were def involved in the crime. Plus, we‘re told that some chars are basically psychopaths but all we‘re shown are angry dickhead dudes. Not awful, just so-so for me. 2/5 ⭐️

This is a very random one — Page Habit (which doesn‘t exist anymore, I don‘t think) had given out this code one time for extra goodies and a 2nd book in a particular box, & this was the additional book. Sounded interesting enough to hang onto, though it‘s been almost a year. Working on clearing out books that have been on my TBR shelves the longest, either by reading or unhauling. Gonna give this a try bc it still piques my interest! #nowreading

A suspenseful story of a young woman caught up in the mystery of her husband's family secrets. The story is told from the perspective of Angie, the young wife: Silja, the missing wife of the dead brother-in-law; and Ruby, Silja's daughter. The story is set in the 1940's to 1960 and includes accurate cultural details.

I enjoyed this one so much I'm going to find the authors first novel.

Kindle estimated 3:42 left & it took me 3:28. Pretty close.

At the dealership waiting for my car to be serviced. Decided to see if my Kindle's estimated reading time left is accurate. In other words, I'm bored.

3 hours 42 minutes - timer started

RadicalReader @Beckys_Books neat that a Kindle will estimate the time left to finish reading never seen that before 7y
Captivatedbybooks @RadicalReader the app does it too but i think only on certain books 7y
Copwithabook I always take longer than what they say it would take me. But I‘m a slow reader 7y
Amie My Kindle usually underestimates the time for me. 7y

Cynthia Swanson‘s first book is one I really enjoyed. I received an email from her before Christmas asking if I would be interested in reading her new book, which will be released on February 6th. I‘m not quite halfway through it and am enjoying the suspense of the story.

Trying to finish this today. It‘s a slow creep-fest. About 50% in and can‘t figure out who the real creep is, but it‘s building up quite nicely.
