Why Am I Me?
Why Am I Me? | Paige Britt

Presented as a thoughtful, poetic exchange between two characters -- who don't realize they are thinking and asking the very same questions -- this beautiful celebration of our humanity and diversity invites readers of all ages to imagine a world where there is no you or me, only we. If the first step toward healing the world is to build bridges of empathy and celebrate rather than discriminate, Why Am I Me? helps foster a much-needed sense of connection, compassion, and love.

Reading other reviews of this on Litsy, I completely agree with the existential undertones in this one - consider, to a degree, a basic intro to existentialism. The illustrations are the reason to read this with a younger audience, showcasing diversity and a sense of community and harmony. Letter W for #BBRC #A2Z , and this completes the category. A pretty graphic illustrating this will be posted later (when I have time!)

Existential angst for the grade-school set. The visuals in this book are stunning. It probably would have been better as a wordless picture book. The text is abstract philosophical ideas, which I don‘t have a problem with, but it is repetitive and offers no insight outside of the pictures.

Pickpick

Why Am I Me? is a beautiful RF story that teaches children about diversity, tolerance and acceptance of others. It also teaches them to always stay true to themselves. It would be perfect for either RA or GR.

http://www.theclassroombookshelf.com/2017/11/why-am-i-me/ This link contains ideas on how to teach inclusion, and other books that would be appropriate for text-to-text connections.

amandagrant UDL – 3.2 Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships

EL – 14. Simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant

And that, dear Littens, is a wrap on my library book review bonanza! Hopefully all of these lovely books quickly find another appreciative reader to take them home and my library card gets some breathing room! (Though I have a bunch of holds waiting for me.🙄)

TheWordJar So glad I'm not the only one who fills multiple bags at the library! 7y
