This is a sweet, heart-warming, and optimistic coming-of-age story. Bridger is a nerdy, awkward trivia junkie with a passion for learning; he‘s also still figuring himself out, and is stressing out over the prospect of having to define himself for others right now. When he discovers the true nature of his boss, a whole new world is revealed to him, one where no one has any expectations of him and what he should be. #fantasy #magic #comingofage
This was a fun one. I can‘t remember he last fantasy I read not set in a fictional place. I liked the story & all the characters. Bridger gets a job as an assistant for who he thinks is just an eccentric guy. But when a mermaid attempts to drown him, he discovers that his boss Pavel is really an intermediary between the human world and myths & that myths have been going haywire for a few months. Bridger needs to help Pavel keep the myths safe. 5⭐️
Dewey‘s 24-hour readathon wrap-up! Def not my most productive readathon, but I still had a great relaxing day and was glad to make some reading progress. I started & finished the tagged book; finished an eARC that I was almost done with; and read about 1/3 of each of the bottom 2 books. Considering I hadn‘t read basically anything this month before Dewey‘s, I‘m pretty happy! #readathon
(I‘m not actually at the beach, this is an old photo 😂) but this was a cute/funny contemporary fantasy about Bridger navigating school and whether he‘s ready to come out as bisexual when two earth-shattering things happen: a cute boy moves into town and he gets a job assisting an intermediary between our world and the world of myth. Many supernatural and adorable shenanigans ensue. Great for fans of urban fantasy and/or rom-coms. #readathon
I made a super overly ambitious tbr stack for Dewey‘s tomorrow! Honestly if I can read anything it‘ll be an accomplishment, I‘ve basically read nothing all week! @DeweysReadathon #readathon
I love the cover and chapter headers! They make me chuckle every time I see them. 😊😊😊
“...Bridger would be perfectly happy in Michigan if he wouldn‘t have to explain himself to everyone for the rest of his life.”
Aw, kid, I totally feel you on this one. 😢
What a delightful romp through the crazy wonderful life of high school senior Bridger Whitt. Man does he have a lot going on from a new job, which requires he enter via the roof of the building and that he ignore the strange voices he hears, to a growing fascination with & crush on his new next door neighbor Leo who just happens to be a star football player. Myth & the human world collide in strange and unexpected ways in this fun & funny YA read.
“...the Gaiman effect.”
Love it!
Have you seen this cover? How can you see this cover and not want to read this book?!? Seriously, I need to know what‘s happening here. Right? A UNICORN IS CHASING A DUDE!!! ACROSS THE COVER OF THIS BOOK!!! So, yeah, this book isn‘t just at the top of my TBR pile, it‘s my next read. ❤️🦄📚🦄❤️
This gets 2/5 stars for decent bisexual boy representation (although I was a bit puzzled by the complete lack of bi/homophobia, especially in the context of a high school football team in Michigan??), but tbh the rest is kinda bad: flat characters, mediocre and annoying writing, uninspired use of fantasy tropes, predictable and boring plot. Some teens will probably really like this, but it was a chore for me to get through. #BisexualBooks
This is my new book to rave about to people. It's a small publisher but oh so good. It's funny, a little unexpected and plays with the tropes you love. I love all the characters and can't wait to get a hold of her other books! Please go take a look. It's SO much fun!!
Also Litsy doesn't like this title for some reason. It didn't want to come up and won't show the whole cover. :/
